Time to replace a manual locking hub

So, i've got an old closed knuckle D44, and the drivers side hub was a PITA to lock in, and acted weird last night. i'm guessing it's time to replace it, its an original looking one... I'd like to get a Warn 3/4 turn... Anything specific I need to know to get one for my axle type?

Have you checked inside? One of mine was next to impossible to turn, so i took them apart, cleaned the pieces in a parts washer, and reassembled with white lithium grease instead of the 30 year old tar that was in there.

I've found that sometimes mine turn hard, and sometimes the don't. Usually I just get a small adjustable wrench and turn them when I can't turn using my fingers. Probably a cleaning first wouldn't hurt.

I've cleaned it once, and couple years ago. I guess I'll start there first. It's acting different this time, it will turn, but it turns too much, more than 3/4 turn, and it looks like the center portion that you turn is trying to come out of the center of the assembly...

thanks for the reminder to clean first, I've got this original on the drvr side, and the PO had replaced the pass side. The pass side is ALWAYS easy to turn, and has positive clicks when it's engaged, or dis-engaged. I keep thinking the driver's side one doesn't feel right, and must be about shot...

thats funny...my pass. side was brand new also. I guess the cast aluminum just doesn't like taking any abuse.

when mine acted up, the one WOULDNT turn at all, even when i rocked the truck, and put it in gear and drove around, and backed up. the other would just spin and not click.

Sometime mine click, a lot of times they don't. But they still lock in and out.

I use always have to use an adjustable wrench on mine. They will just spin round and round. They hardly ever click, but will lock in and out. I should probably clean them too, but haven't gotten that far yet.

On my 69 k10 when I first got it in Dec. the lockouts would turn easy.
Now they will lock in 4x4 and will not unlock or move at all until I drive in 2x4 for awhile. I guess it doesn't matter because I am getting a disc brake axle with WARN lockouts.
