so first the story, I picked this truck up in salem Arkansas for 100 dollars under a carpot where it was parked for 10 years and it was all original except for these funky rims in the pictures (moldy pics are the day it arrived at its new home) i Have got rally rims for it and i have taken the 250 out for a rebuild and replaced with a temp 305 out of a 74 i believe. exhaust is true duel 3 inch straight side pipes, it has had many stages past few years and frame off will start soon hopefully.:chevy: THE other pics are the same day after a good wash and wax, paint is really thin and and 250 ran good for another 100k miles

yup 100 bucks a lady me and my dad worked for wanted to give us "this old beat up farm truck that will never run" and we looked at it and convinced her to let us give atleast 100. the rims are some kind of oldsmobile i do believe

Finally here is how she sits today. pretty rough, the build has come to a stop, but hopefully will pick back up this month. the 28 year old paint finally had enough waxing and gave out so she got some primer to prevent rusting

I have started looking at rebuilding the 250 but the problem i run into is the "rebuild kits" dont include everything i need or want, basically what im working with is the block, alternator and starter.where to get what i need or sugesstions what i should do? i preferably want to rebuild it myself

I helped a bud swap a bad 250 out of a 69 C10 this summer, got a new long block from cmengines.com for a little over a grand. Nice score.

Thanks! its getting there, I am going to go back with stock exterior (colors, what not and no chrome) on it but im going with a bigger cam from comp and actually doing whole valve-train with the comp high energy series, not going to bore it or anything else. the truck is a mild custom so if i ever wanted i go back all stock i could easily. which reminds me you happen to know or have a pic of stock chevy 1984 250ci colors?

ran into a problem with the six, a nice crack i would really like some help with this one guys. should i look at trying to get it fixed or am i spending to much money that way versus new block? i really wanted matching numbers but.. if i am wasting time and money then i don't want it. will post pics in just a few, the crack is located here on the block.

Here is the crack, the crack goes all the way through and to inside of the block into the coolant passage, the second shot it from straight on where the water pump mounts.

I know alot about these cracks and to be honest not as bad as you may think. My buddy and I race inline sixes and one of our race engines has the same crack in the same location and area. Bummer but we were able to fix ours. Looks like your having fun.

Definitely enjoying myself with this build. I might keep the old engine and rebuild it i like to have a backup motor and I think it would be a good candidate. Just so many mixed opinions on whether to fix it or not form everyone that getting the new motor will help me not worry so much.

Re: Lil Red, 1984 c10 shortbed barn find mild custom build

We ran that six with the crack in it for like three or four seasons. Our motor turns like 6800rpms. So she buzzes for a six. We had to drill it and put a pin in it, like a screw. It held up really well. I think on the street it would be fine, because not as much stress like in a circle track car. Good luck with you new engine.
