Upgrading the spare tire and wheel
 

I have come to realize the stock spare tire and wheel looks a little silly it is visible with the top off. I am looking into replacing the spare tire and wheel to match the rest. For a spare, I currently I have white 15 inch wheel with "GM" stamped on it wearing a General G tire L78-15. I would like a Weld Racing Super Single II 15 x 10 wearing a BF Goodrich Mud Terrain 33 X 12.5. This shouldn't be a problem, right?

If you have the rear panels it will NOT fit with the hoop in the present location :(

I agree with Krue, leave it as is or just take it out completely. I have one of those cans of fix-a-flat for oversized tires in my K10.

I agree with Krue as well. That is one of my favorite Blazers on the board and to be honest, I've never really even noticed it (it doesn't stand out to me).

I wouldn't change a thing.

As already stated it won't fit and the current one 'looks' right/good.

That being said, having to use the current one as a spare to get home with might look a little silly.

I might be crazy, but I think it will fit. I have 4 inches to the side panel with the stock spare. The stock spare is 30 inches in diameter. The new one will be 33 inches in diameter. So I figure three inches taller, 1.5 inches wider to the right, 1.5 inches wider to the left. Should leave me with a 2.5 inch gap between the spare and side panel. I'll have to get a new post to mount the plate and wingnut to. I'm thinking some all thread will do the trick. Heat it, bend it, cut it to proper length.

I think so. I'll try putting one of the wheels I have on the truck on there. I just wanted to see if anyone had done it and what they had to do. Anything is possible.

Whatever you do with the spare, it's still one of the nicest looking blazers I have ever seen!:) Maybe some day mine will look that good.:rolleyes:

I removed the spare and placed one of the wheels that is on the truck in the spare tire mount. Here are my findings.

1. The 33" tire and the rear side panel fit just fine. Still have 2.5 inches of clearance.
2. The inside of the 33" tire and 15" wheel combo just- I mean just clears the spare tire mount. So the top of the mount would press against the top of the original spare. The 33" tire and 15" wheel I have cleared the mount and wound up pressing against the back of the rear seat back. The spare tire mount would have to be about 2 inches taller for the spare tire to mount properly.
3. The center plate is too small and slides right though the center of my wheel. A new larger plate or bar would have to be used.
4. The taller tire requires the open slot on the spare tire carrier to be moved higher. A hole would have to be drilled throught the spare tire mount to accomidate this.
5. Rear visiblity is horrible. The entire driver side is blocked with the larger spare.

I have to take the truck out of the garage and snap some pictures. I'm not sure if it looks good or not yet.

I would like to see what it looks like when youre done. I'd say from the look of youre blazer you have good taste and will make the right decision. This is one of my favorite blazers on here as well.

Are you talking about mine? The old spare is an L78-15 and the mudders are 33X12.50 R15.

This is an old old thread but I finally got around to matching the 33x12.5R15 with a spare mounted inside using the stock carrier (2nd photo). Some slight modifications are needed make it more secure.

From a function standpoint, a matching spare is the right thing to do in case I get a flat. I think it looks better with no spare or just the smaller original stock spare with the cover over it (1st photo)

It's not the best photo but at least it's something.

Any thoughts?
