Rear diff cover gasket

Do you guys use any sealant on this gasket? It’s a paper gasket, not sure if it needs sealant or RTV.

Also, the bolts - do you guys use sealant on these? The threaded hole for these bolts go through into the differential.

When I had my rear diff rebuilt at at shop they used sealant on both. Looks like the black stuff.

Sorry, no. Just that it's black

Anytime I have a paper gasket, I smear RTV on both sides. Not really enough to squeeze out, just enough to fill in any imperfections.

I use Permatex Ultra Black, no gasket.

After assembly, do you wait 24 hours before filling it with oil?

I usually try to wait a couple hours but no not 24 hrs and never had any issue. Its all about how you lay your bead of rtv or some people like too smear the rtv.

A little #2 Permatex will help seal things up if needed.
