need some engine decoding....
hey guys, i have a 402 and i am just trying to find out all the info i can on it..... i have had it for about 10 years now and it really just hit me the other day that i don't know much about it......
here are the numbers off of the shelf on the pass side front of the motor.... i can't get to the back yet to get those numbers.... here they are. T1018C6TB 42J146355 what can you tell me? i know it has something to do with when and where it was cast, and what it originally went into.... thanks rick |

There is something wrong with the code that you posted as most codes have 8 digits. The "6" in your posting seems to be an extra number.
Anyway assuming the "6" is not supposed to be there, this is what I came up with. T1018CTB T= Tonawanda, manufacturer of the engine 10= October, month of manufacture 18= October 18, day of manufacture CTB= 402 or 396 used in 1972 cars, (Chevelles, Full size, and Camaro) The cast date code will confirm my assumption or disprove it.
