hey guys, i have a 402 and i am just trying to find out all the info i can on it..... i have had it for about 10 years now and it really just hit me the other day that i don't know much about it......

here are the numbers off of the shelf on the pass side front of the motor.... i can't get to the back yet to get those numbers....

here they are.

T1018C6TB

42J146355

what can you tell me? i know it has something to do with when and where it was cast, and what it originally went into....

thanks

You will find the suffix codes here. Looks like you might have a letter missing.

Re: need some engine decoding....

There is something wrong with the code that you posted as most codes have 8 digits. The "6" in your posting seems to be an extra number.

Anyway assuming the "6" is not supposed to be there, this is what I came up with.

T1018CTB

T= Tonawanda, manufacturer of the engine
10= October, month of manufacture
18= October 18, day of manufacture
CTB= 402 or 396 used in 1972 cars, (Chevelles, Full size, and Camaro)

The cast date code will confirm my assumption or disprove it.
