ORD Front upper shackle kit

Anyone have any experience and pictures of adapting this kit to a 67-72?

Are you going for a longer spring up front? Here is a pic from (diy4x.com) b52 first gen. It looks like it uses two of the frame holes.

Re: ORD Front upper shackle kit

No, I'm using the existing 4" lift springs.
Do you think this would work out well as a replacement for the OE upper shackle mount? Meaning, do you think after removing the OE stuff this would go in it's place with minor mods?

Re: ORD Front upper shackle kit

the real need for these tends to be hard core offroad flexy guys . otherwise i still run stock on my 73-87 stuff with the poly upgrade bushings and HD shackles with greaseable bolts kit from ORD .

Re: ORD Front upper shackle kit

This is the only upper shackle hanger I can find.
It's nice, and I'd like to use it because it is bigger and can be greased.

If there was an OE replacement I'd buy that just to get this fixed, and the OE stuff lasted this long so I'd be cool with using it again. But being that they are made of cast iron, and riveted to the frame these are not exactly something that seems to be a part found at the local Napa.

just use this kit and NOT change the frame hanger unless there bad and worn out . but you didnt say if they were or not .

The hangers are fine.
It's the piece the bushings push into and the bolt goes through.
Mine is all egg shaped due to someone running with out bushings for years.

Re: ORD Front upper shackle kit

anger is on frame .
shackles hook them to the leaf and hanger .

so your riveted on shackle hanger is bad this is common . i have changed a few out .

alternative remove stock hanger and have it bored out and sleeved if you couldn't find a used good one . this would save you from all the extra work of the not 100% bolt in units . not that there not good units . just might save you a lot of hassle.

i just had 4 old bank vault hinges bored and sleeved cheaper than having just 1 hinge remade or new stuff retro fitted .

That would work fine. I swapped those pieces off of my cucv donor to my 69 k10. I had to reposition my mounting holes slightly but no big deal. If your not changing springs, it should be simple.

I took a 67 or 68 2wd frame and used the FUSH to convert to 4wd. No issues from what I can remember but that was over 10 years ago...

Working on another project, and it really needs the FUSH kit since everything was riding on metal to metal for years. So everything is all oval shaped and can't be fixed with new bushings.

Went ahead and ordered it, and have just received the parts.
Super nice and heavy duty compared to the OE stuff.
Will post updates when I begin and finish this little project.

ORD makes some nice stuff. I used DIYs parts - very similar build quality which is heavier than the frame that they're bolted to. Nice heavy duty stuff!

I have no idea what i don't have more pics of the rear hanger?

Re: ORD Front upper shackle kit

i tend to run a mix of both brands on my builds . both ord and diy4x are super stuff .

This is what I am replacing.
As you can see, there is no fixing this with a new bushing.
More to follow.

thats way to far gone . :ack:

i have seen some get bored and steel sleeve pressed in and bored to size . but these are gone .

your going to get a front end lift just from replacing these and the bushings . :metal:

Noticeable improvement, and the truck is starting to sit right again.
Now on to the rear shackles, since they are just as bad as the fronts.

Re: ORD Front upper shackle kit

nice clean looking install job there . :metal:

vectorit 08-27-2019 08:42 PM

Re: ORD Front upper shackle kit

To install these, all that needed to be done was drill 4 new bolt holes and use a die grinder to open up the original bushing hole a little bit.

Re: ORD Front upper shackle kit

Very clean indeed. I like the greaseable bolts. If I wasn't a cheapskate, I would have got those as well.

I thought he was asking about buying your old worn-out parts. Not sure why though....

Yeah, I mean the old ones. I want to use them to jig up new ones.

I like how the old ones bolt in two planes on the web and flange of the frame vs how the the aftermarket ones are in a single plane on the web.

You can have the ones on my old blue truck, but you have to take the whole truck. Lol
