348/409 differences

I'm looking at buying a C80 that supposedly has a 409 in it. How can I tell the difference between a 348 truck engine and a 409 truck engine. Is the dip stick position different on the truck engines like on the car engines. Thanks for any help.

Checking the Casting Numbers, Date Codes and Engine Suffix Code will also help to tell what you have there.

348 and 409 truck oil pan are exactly the same. Dipstick on the passenger side. Check the #s like Bill said

I seen somewhere's where someone said there's an X on the front of the block on 409's by the water pump on the driver's side. Does anyone know if this is true?
