1971 Jimmy trans swap time

Hello! my name is Michael..I'll be doing a transmission swap. Taking out the old th350 and putting in an old sm465.. a lot of oldness going on.

I just picked up a donor truck yesterday for 800$, has a 302/sm465/np205. The truck also had a 4 inch suspension lift (which I may or may not try to fit onto my '71 Jimmy).

I've pulled engines and transmissions on Chevys before - but never swapped anything..so this should be a learning experience for me, and hopefully for anyone else doing this sort of thing. I think we will all learn from my mistakes.

I'll be uploading pics and progress and look forward to everyone's input/heckling:lol:. But, here are the two trucks.

You listed the donor with a 302.......probably is a 305?

Anyway if your '71 has a 350 already, all the donor stuff will fit except you may
need a different mount where the 205 TC adapter mounts to the frame cross member between the tranny and transfer case.

If you're lucky it may fit, if not you'll need some kind of different mounting configuration, most likely from a '71 with a SM465.

Hi, thanks for the info. The guy I bought it from said 302..as for engine identification, I have no idea how to tell a 302 from a 305. for the TC, I was planning on swapping the frame cross member too.. I noticed they were a little different. Seems like the cross member on the newer truck wraps up and around the frame, where as the '71's cross-members bolts to the insides..I could be wrong though.. I'll throw some pics up when I get home.
