What`s Up w/Golden State Pickup Parts?

I never hear anything about them since Seth and Merideth sold it.The new owner didn`t hit the eastern meet circuit from day#1 and they consolidated into one store, but I`ve seen nothing about them. Are they still around?Just curious about the fate of the pioneering company in the vintage GM truck parts industry that we all enjoy today.

I bought something from them a few years ago(I believe after new ownership), I called a month after I ordered to see where my item was and they said it was getting shipped from somewhere else. I canceled the order and have not ordered from them since. A phone call to let me know what's going on is all it would have taken for me to be o.k. with the wait.

They're just not what they once were. They are now just another reproduction parts vendor and not owned by the founder. I'd order from someone on this sites
's supporting vendor list. All,but one (that I now of),are owned and operated by the original owners who are themselves fellow vintage GM Truck enthusiasts.

Nothing is as it seems anymore, is it?

It's not even in California, as it's name would suggest. I can understand why.......but that's a whole different discussion!

The original GSPP grew to a handful of locations and Carson City was one of them. I don't know if the current store is in the same location or the new owner has it somewhere else in town now. I got their catalog, probably 5 or so years ago,and just didn't see anything that other vendors wouldn't have.

Man...back in the day they were the only place to find those really hard to find parts like door escutcheons, and the rubber boot behind the power brake booster. Totally sucks if they are goin' down the death spiral road. :(

Anyone old enough to remember this?

Re: What`s Up w/Golden State Pickup Parts?

Yes,I think I went to that one. They moved it to magic Mountain...or was it the other way 'round?
Seth sold a most of the dies and manufacturing stuff to one of the big outfits who produces parts and sells them, too.

I know this is old thread but ran across some Golden State parts a few weeks ago, still in the box, new. I figured I would share with the Mod Squad. Well-made stuff.

Old thread, but interesting historically. I had the pleasure of meeting Seth at the Santa Barbara store in the late 80's. Back then, all the advertisements were thru publications like truckin magazine, then he came out with his own magazine, pickups and panels in print which was excellent before the days before internet. As I recall, in the 70's, the in thing was the '53-'56 Ford pickup. Seth was one of the first to hone in on the '55-'59 Chevy pickup with his business, then expanded to '60-'66. Ironically, as I recall, there was little interest in '67-'72 up thru the early 90's.

Funny. That is exactly the part I still have. I'm saving it for my '72 K2500 restoration. I changed interior color from blue to saddle but the headliner is still blue, because I'm sure the original trim would not survive an R & R.

Yep, SoCal Pickup Parts did the Effies and Seth came out with GSPP shortly there after. He had that orange '55 with a 427 and Cragars. At first I wasn't sure if those businesses weren't both owned by the same person.

Pickups & Panels In Print was the bi-monthly publication for the National Chevy/GMC Truck Association. They covered the original classic GM Truck years of 47-72. Seth didn't own that, but he did a tech article in every issue and was certainly a big player in that club. There was a free classified section for members. I kept a WTB ad running for guess what? K/20 hubcaps and tow hooks! I still have all my issues of PPIP in binders they sold with the logo. I have two NCGTA ball caps and an imprinted bar towel. I wish I still had some window stickers. All my trucks had them on the driver side wing vent

He started/promoted Chevy/GMC truck events as well. What is now the Carlisle truck show started out as a Chevy/GMC truck event. He got Truckin' magazine involved in those shows as a sponsor. I still have a t-shirt from the first show.

Seth got into the monster truck scene, too. He ran the Skoal Bandit trucks. His ex-wife Meredith drove them. Pretty cool! Helater had a '72 bodied one for AM/PM stores

I was in Carson City 2 years ago and stopped by their place to have a look at what they were all about. They indicated that they were trying to be just a mail order business but at that time were not turning away any walk ins.

Dang Tim, You've been around the block a few times, had no idea! It's funny when people say, "before 67-72 trucks were cool"....man these things are on fire nowadays. :smoke:

Any idea how long the fire will last? I have been a part of buying these trucks since 1984 when I bought a 72 Cheyenne and was thrilled to pay $2000 for it. Sold it for $2500 and was pleased to make that much profit after using it as my work truck. Came with a CB in it too.

I sold the store and they moved it to Carson City. I had nothing to do with Carson City that was in 2000. But I'm still alive and doing well with Quality Classic parts if you need anything. Still reproducing high-quality restoration parts. I'm launching My website in the next week or so. Qualityclassicparts.com
I am on Ebay with qualityclassicparts and horsepowerproducts

Hey Seth, glad you found this thread. It felt kind of funny talking about your business this time knowing you are signed on here as a vendor. I felt I should leave it up to you to identify yourself and thought to shoot you a PM about this thread. It's great to see what you are doing these days.

We spoke at Fall Carlisle ('19?) a couple few years back. I don't expect you to recall, but I had my white '72 K2500 sitting along the "services" bldg on my corner spaces at the end of the grandstand/food court. I knew you were always about producing "quality parts" and our conversation confirmed that being a frustration you had to deal with the manufacturers on. Thank you for all you did and are still doing.

I’ve got an old US made Golden State tailgate band on the Blazer and their wood grain 72 door panel inserts on the k20.
