When people keep bugging you to sell......

Ok....For some reason I have been getting people bothering me at least 2 times a week the last few months from different people driving by and making me offers on my 72 GMC and my 91 burb. I'm getting tired of being nice. One guy has been by 4 times in the last year to inquire on my burb. Yesterday a guy asked me to sell the suburban and I asked him if he saw a for sale sign. I didn't feel good about saying it like that but this is getting nuts. NFS!!!! Maybe I should say 10 grand each and see what they say then. Any suggestions?

If they are just parked and not being used, try putting a "not for sale" sign on or by them.

Tell them it is for sale....$25K. They will stop asking.

Re: When people keep bugging you to sell......

Everything I own is for sale. The prices are just set so that I get to keep the things I really like. I wouldn't set the price at $10k. I would ask $15 or $20k. Send a message.

Re: When people keep bugging you to sell......

They're asking because they like the trucks and you never know who is willing to sell on a given day. I once had a small toyota truck that a neighbor wanted. He asked me about couple times a year if I was willing to sell. Said he wanted to fix it up for his son. One year I was having trouble with the truck and was getting tired of messing with it. He came by and I sold it to him right on the spot. Never had to put a sign on it. He was happy, his son was happy and I got rid of a problem.

Be nice and polite and just say no, it's your pride and joy.

A plainly posted sign that says," MY vehicles are NOT for sale!" I will prosecute ANY trespasser who stops to look or ask!

Why send the message that our trucks CAN be worth big bucks? Plus you gotta waste your time to get rid of them when they ignore the sign!

That's just about what I tell folks too.

Had a truck pull up to my driveway one day when I was detailing it, getting ready for a show. Guy asks if I'd like to sell my truck cause.........you ready for this....He wants to buy his 16 old son a truck.
I nodded and said "yep, it's for sale, Matter of fact I'll let you have it, just for your son, for only 30k".

"30 Thousand Dollars!!!" he says "What's it made out of...GOLD!?"

"Nope, it's made out of MY Blood, MY sweat and MY money and you want to give this truck to some panzy-a** 16 year old, who'll total it in a week!?" I said; "Have a nice day".
I heard a bunch of cussing as he drove off, but didn't bother turning around.

So from then on I tell anyone asking if it's for sale $30k and it's yours.

Give them a seriously high price and that conversation will end QUICK.

With gas prices the way they are I get a couple a week wanting to buy my Yamaha QT50. If I set it outside of the garage someone is sure to stop. I tell them all the same thing, if the price is right I will sell it. Then they ask whats the right price, I tell them $500 and it needs a gas tank. No one has bit yet, hahahahahaha

I actually have a blast on that little thing, great at the races to get around on

I don't find it unusual for people to inquire as to whether or not a vehicle is for sale, I have occasionally stopped to inquire as to whether or not a vehicle was for sale, although certainly not four times in a year. As boundstaffpress said, everything I own is for sale, but people frequently don't like my pricing scheme. I once had a Chevelle a kid wanted to buy, I told him it was for sale and he said he was going to get his dad. They came back and looked at it. The dad asked how much and I figured in my head how much I had in it. Basically, I didn't want to sell it, so I doubled the amount I had invested and told him...damned if they didn't buy it. Went to the bank that afternoon, cash in hand to deposit!!

I need to post this in big letters in my trucks!!!!.....16 year old?!?!....really??....you know that kid has his own jetski, plasma tv, and 300 dollar a week allowance. Some guys go off of blue book value only....that's fine for them....not me.

Re: When people keep bugging you to sell......

I seem to get nice comments nearly every time I take my K20 out lately. People want to talk about old trucks, but no one has asked if it was for sale.

When I had the 72 C10 burb though I was constantly being asked if I wanted to sell that. Always polite and just said nope its not for sale. Then I tell them about the board and there is a trucks for sale section there and they should check it out.

LMAO!!! Too Funny. Now if that guy who wanted to buy my truck for his kid whipped out 30K..................I still woulda said "No Sale".
One of these days though, someone might meet my price and then I'll have to do some serious thinking.

Yeah, I agree iluvmy72, he mighta been a Brat, but he's not one with my truck.

Do have it parked out front by a busy highway? It's really strange you'd be getting that many people stopping by.

Mine is currently a beater with a capital B and even Ive gotten two offers.
For those with nicer rides what about a vinyl window decal 'not for sale' or custom plates 'not4sal'?

I just WISH someone would stop and ask if I wanted to sell any of my trucks...:).. If anyone stops at my place to inquire about any of my trucks they will be treated with respect just as I would like to be if I stop and ask about one while I am on the road.

A local guy bought this '72 GMC from me a couple of years ago, the same week I finished it, for his 14 year old son. His money was as good as anyone else's. I could care less what he does with it.

Fortunately, the kid has taken exceptional care of it and won a first place at a car show with it last summer.

I told one guy, as soon as I can clean all the blood out of it I would price it. Just bought it from the police auction....

Good for you LockDoc, good for you. That's fantastic to read about a young man that bought the truck and took care of it. :metal::bann::flag::c2::clap:
I'm also happy to read you have quite a few trucks too and that you could care less what they do with it after they buy it from you. I think that's a great way to think about it. My Hats off to ya.

Re: When people keep bugging you to sell......

I first asked the previous owner of my truck if it was for sale in 1991. He said no for several years. When he died I asked his wife if it was for sale. She said no for several years. Finally, she said she was giving the truck to her son (he is in his late 50’s). I asked him if it was for sale. He said no for several years. Then in 2008 he called me up and said he decided he was never going to have the time or money to restore his dads truck. So I finally bought it 17 years later. Point of the story….. never give up.

I have people ask me quite often.I finally figured out how to stop the crap.I just tell them yeah it's for sale. When they ask how much I tell them to start counting money into my hand and when they're done I'll either give them a title or a ride.Funny thing though,no one has pulled out their wallet, guess they aren't serious or maybe they think it's just an old truck and I'll give it away.

I consider it a compliment. I like talking trucks with other people. Especially 67-72 Chevy/GMC Longbeds! ;)
