Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

The 3/4 used the HO52 5200lb capacity while the 1 ton used the HO72 7200lb capacity. The rear ends look very similar, but the HO 72 has larger bearings and lower gears. 2 or 3 piece rims were the heavy duty option on all models 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton during this era ( rims were wider and could handle higher capacity tires of the era), however, one piece rims were standard equipment on all 1/2 3/4 and 1 tons. Both 3/4 and 1 tons use same 8 lug pattern.

When is the last time you saw a "REAL" '62 C 2O custom? As thread starter Sodly said is true, they are almost impossible to find in factory correct excellent original condition.

Does anyone know where I can find out more information about these 3/4 ton trucks? Are there any 60-66 books that might highlight them? I am pretty new to these trucks and I have found that I really like the C20s!

This thread rocks!

It's funny to read that I'm not alone. I prefer a 3/4 ton, and a long bed to a short as well. I tell some people and they look at me like I have 2 heads. I love them bone stock as well with skinny tires and wheels. I have to drive a new company car most of my day, so driving something antique feeling on the weekends is a must. I have nothing against modernizing a vintage truck if thats your bag. I do get sick to my stomach when I see a clean original butchered though. I know the hubcaps are incorrect for my 63 but I am having a really tough time finding the correct 61-63 caps. I see that one of the members has a picture of one---I wish he would sell it to me! My truck has 19.5 Kelsey Hayes wheels with 19.5-8 tires. I have a correct set of 17.5's as well but like the tall 19.5's. With tire with combo is aver 38" tall. I also love the look of the split rims--they arent that dangerous unless they are mounted incorrectly. That original paint 62 is beautiful!

Here's one more 3/4 ton. I spent all summer sanding 4 coats of paint off this truck. Then painted it one piece at a time over a number of weeks. I had planned on selling it to fund the short bed '63 in my avatar but Its kinda growing on me. I think I'll keep it. I agonized for days over what color to paint it. I would have liked to keep it the original color if it had been anything but desert beige. 2nd choice would have been any factory color from 1963. I went with my 3rd choice, transport blue which is still a factory chevy color from the mid 50's.

Thanks for preserving and posting all those very clean great looking '63 3/4 tons Goat herder, El minero and 63 spud. It takes a little more effort with these models, but they are worth it. Everbody knows, but doesn't like to admit it, that real "trucks" have full floating rear axles.

Hey goat herder, do you paint all your trucks the same color or do you only buy a truck if it's that color? Nice trucks!

I happen to like blue, but no it's just a coincidence that they're all blue. I have a red 51 GMC, and a Med Olive/white 72 Chevy 3/4 ton. I may change the color on the 63 to Omaha orange or Yukon Yellow.

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

well I cant' find any pics, but my first truck I bought myself was a '60 3/4 ton long bed. if I ever needed a 'real' truck again, I'd love to have a 60-66 longbed 3/4 ton. but for now, hot rods are on the agenda... aka, '61 short fleet ;)

yelmer 11-18-2011 08:52 PM

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

Yes the green truck and the red have the one piece 17.5 . I replaced the 16. Split rims the 17.5 are the other wheel you could get with the 3/4 ton mike

Here's me 63 c20 I just bought last weekend! Usual rust on the bottoms of fenders, and just starting on the corner of one door. Otherwise rust free! Its all original. Even the paint except the spraypaint on the door where the old shop name got covered up years ago. V8 4speed
