1969-1970 Blazer rear carpet trim plates

Thread documenting 1969-70 Blazers with the wide flat rear carpet trim plates. My 1970 has both wide flat chrome plates fore and aft.

Here is an unrestored 1970 Blazer on Ebay:

Re: 1969-1970 Blazer rear carpet trim plates

I'm extremely skeptical but will follow and look for examples. Strange these would be placed on some but not all 69-70 K5s (all of which were assembled at a single plant), seemingly disappear for 71, then reappear in 72 at Flint.

The 1970 example on eBay (link HERE) is far from original. Note the replaced screws affixing the hatch to tailgate seal on the tail gate.

The purportedly low-mile 1969 on BAT (link HERE) has had many, many items replaced that seem oddly out of place for such a low-mile truck and these items include door sill plates, engine items, carpet, side marker lamps, reverse lenses, front seat backs, at least the front seat upholstery. This truck was juiced up for the sale I suspect. Not that it is a bad truck, I like it. BTW, the seller is a used car dealer with 43 BAT car sales alone.

What did square body K5's have for carpet trim plates? Were these similar to those in question on this thread?

Fine to be skeptical, but I know darn well what came on my 1970..

This 69 has the "smooth" style front and back (and factory rear step bumper). Not the best depiction but undeniably present. I'll keep looking.

When possible, can you post some close-up photos of those on your Blazer?

They have been removed, and will not be going on due to poor condition. I will be replacing them with like design repro units from Motorcity.

Documenting what you believe are original pieces would be useful.

One of my two 71s had the 2nd style both front and back original to the blazer. Purchased from the original owner in 1981

Re: 1969-1970 Blazer rear carpet trim plates

Reticent to weigh in since I've been out the Blazer game for a good while. But I did spend a fair amount of time thinking about this 10 years ago. I had to reproduce my own carpet strips before they were available as they are now.

Back then my anecdotal opinion was that the flat/flat configuration was the early arrangement. Then when the ribbed strip came along, all configurations seemed fair game (flat/ribbed, ribbed/flat, ribbed/ribbed). I believe I have observed all of these, though when I went through my reference picture bank, I did not have examples that couldn't otherwise have their originality called into question.

I love that you've started this thread. All the better if we can correlate build date and factory to see if there is any discernible break point or pattern.

I have owned 5 1972 Blazers, along with my 1970 that I still have. All 5 1972's, which were a mixture of St. Louis and Flint built all had the ribbed bed carpet strips front and back. I still have 2 of the SPIDS. All 5 have been parted out.
