Or are you talking about the huge things that were build for Arctic Expeditions?
they may have been used for the oil exploration...and they were 30s-40s vintage ford trucks with tractor tires...there was a second version 'super swamper II' that had duals on the front and triples out back

Tim, you better be careful with that Tonka Jeep. You could put it on Ebay and buy another big chevy with the money. I can't believe what some of the toys go for $$$$$$$!

special-K 02-02-2009 10:30 AM

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes

How do you like the lift kit I made to fit the big tires on?Tonka never made the Gladiator with big tires.I have a `58ish (Ford) fullsize Tonka Flareside PU I restored as a Hiway Dept truck that`s lifted with the grader tires on it.I`ll have to dig it out for pictures(and sell...)

It`s hit`n`miss now on Ebay. But,I did peek at old toy trucks the other day and say a mismatched Tootsie Toy low-boy (Matchbox Major trailer/early`60s GMC coe tractor) that was up to over $200!!!I was interested because of the GMC cab.I`m aware of toy values and have a huge collection. But,that made no sense at all!I collected alot in the 80s and into the 90s and have a huge collection.I`m ready to do just what you said and put that money into something I can "use".If they don`t bring good money I`ll keep them.

The lift kit and big tires are cool! I will have to do something like that for my boy. He has too many toys as it is. A freind dropped of some old Tonka truck the other day. the old style Loader and dump truck. Both the old all metal ones. they don't look like they were ever played with. Needless to say they are in the shop on a shelf. (He already has at least six of these in rougher condition)

Yeah,my son had a huge sandbox and he had his own collection of Tonkas(that I got to restore).I wanted him to grow up with the good stuff.I did this Gladiator for him.He kept getting stuck with those stock straight treads.

Re: Vintage 4wd Pictures:Other Makes

Its a 1978 F350 with a 60 front-60 rear. 4.10s with a detroit locker out back and a ARB up front. The C6 auto has been beefed up and AOD first gear added (lowers the first gear ratio). It has a NP205 untouched. 8inch custom front lift an 6.5 in the rear(gives it that nose up look). 40 inch Baja Claws. Put disc brakes in the rear with custom brackets and used cadillac eldorado calipers for the e-brake and chevy front 3/4 ton rotors. Stops really good! Was a frame off with a factory air cab that blows COLD air. Here is the best part...I dont know if many of you Chevy guys know much about the 351m/400 Ford engine but many say it a boat anchor, which in stock form with primitive smog only produced 170hp at the flywheel! These motors have huge potential when built right. They are a tall deck version of the famed 351c. So I built mine as a 400 (406) with cleveland heads and a full roller setup. Dynoed at damn near 500hp! Not bad for a boat anchor! LOL This engine is much lighter and spins up much higher than a 460. All in all this truck has been great to me. Did all the work including the ghost flamed paint. Dont get me wrong, I love Chevys too. I race dragboats and my Hydro and flatbottom both have chevies in them!

Gotta agree with the above - the body style of the above Ford is one of my favorites - an older buddy had a 1977 Ford when I was growing up and I really liked it.

1970GMC468 - outstanding truck - I'd happily park that along side my trucks any day!

I like all old trucks before 1980.I prefer GM for myself. If I could have whatever I want I`d be like a Jay Leno with all trucks trying to cover the spectrum from large to small..
