Here's a bigger International that was for sale at the Portland Swap meet last weekend. They were asking $8500. I know it sold but I don't know for how much.

I just wonder what somebody would do with something like that.

Speaking of wondering what someone would do with something, the Dodge I purchased a few months ago showed up today. Plans are 32's on either some better looking turbines or aluminum slots I already have, Power wash under hood and underneath, clean up the paint, get it running better, and then it's done.

In 75 my dad bought a light blue 74 3/4 ton like that. It was a 440 auto and loaded with options. The bucket seats and console that was hooked to the A/C got replaced with a bench seat early on but, the first modification was when he pulled the bed and replaced it with the service boxes that were on the 70 K20 he traded in for the Dodge.

With wildfires being so common these days having your own fire truck is a pretty good idea. Not to mention that can help in selling the purchase to the wife.

Another Cornbinder and this one's for sale. Not mine I love the big back windows on these trucks.
Still 24 hours to and it's at $27,000. Hard to believe.

Beautiful international, I can only imagine the nightmare getting parts for it must have been.

The '79 Dodge I bought last year exceeded expectations from an originality, completeness, and lack of rust standpoint. I needs a little tuning, but beyond that was well taken care of and the PO had a lot of recent receipts getting maintenance completed at a shop.

The paint is absolutely shot and this truck really deserves a full repaint but I don't see that happening with me any time soon. I like the original color so I decided to get the rims blasted and then painted them in the factory metallic color and will run them with dog dishes I found online.

My barn that I store this truck in is about 35 minutes from where I live. Dodge used at least 3 metallic blue colors in '79. I thought I knew the paint code so ordered up the paint I needed, painted the rims, got some new 32's installed and hauled the tires out to the barn this afternoon as I was swapping out trucks. I got the paint code wrong....ugh. Just ordered more paint tonight.

Great truck and thanks for providing the detailed back story and progress. I honestly think the paint/patina looks great, maybe try a little linseed oil on it? and nice choice on your wheel/tire/dogdish choices and direction - it really completes the truck - well done!

Thank you! I don't hate it just wish there were a little more blue left on it. The driver's side has even less paint on it. It was pretty dry when I bought it so I used Penetrol on it. I've used boiled linseed on trucks also with good results but tried Penetrol on this one and I like how it's holding up. Now I just need to wait on the paint and find the time to spray the rims.

You sure seem to find the nice ones

I for one still like a nicely painted old truck. And I was the only loving them aged as is long before the masses knew the word patina. I love the worn but functional factor. I like my cotton clothing once it shows some fade, always have. Brand new shoes look awkward for me. Sock? Brand spanking new is great!! (underwear, too). But as trucks age they deserve a respectable paint job. I always figured my patina trucks would eventually get paint. Paint comes last for me. Funny that the fad came about with guys saying it was because a paint job has gotten so expensive. But now we see patina trucks going for $25-35k and beyond. Seems money for a paint job could squeeze in there somewhere

I like a nicely painted truck also and I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone that doesn't. Here's my take on paint:

- Original with nice paint is the best you can get from a value standpoint in my opinion but need to be very careful with the vehicle because it's original paint. Nice thing about original nice paint though is that some minor blemishes are ok. It's original paint!

- Original paint that isn't in the best condition. You know what you get with this kind of truck. Nothing to hide, some bumps and bruises ok as long as rust is minimal. Great trucks to actually use which is what I try to do with my trucks. Accidentally scratch the paint and nobody besides you will ever notice it.

- A nice respray. I'm talking a professional 9 or 10 out of 10 paint job here.
These look pretty and are what get most non truck people's attention. Bright shiny paint, nice chrome, all cleaned up. I like these types of trucks also and admire the type of owner that can keep them clean but that's not me. I don't like to need a vehicle to be dust free before I take it out in public. I've never had a vehicle in a show either. One bad move with a kid's bike or a door ding and all of a sudden your perfect paint job has a flaw that everyone will see. I love perfect paint vehicles, I'm just better off not owning them and I've sold plenty of very nice vehicles to back up that point.

- Bad resprays are very common and for me I'd rather see a multicolored, pieced together truck that is rust free than a bad paint job.

The other thing about resprays is that unless I owned the truck before the respray and had the paint work done, there's no telling the stories that may lie under that pretty paint. Because of that, my focus is minimal rust and original paint regardless of the condition. The Dodge is worthy of a respray as it's a pretty color, is complete, and has way too much missing paint as it is. I just hope that if/when that day comes I don't end up selling it because I'm worried about messing up that pretty new paint.

I always looked, still would if I could buy, for original paint. No matter the condition, too. I'm not going to pay someone back for their paint job and not know what's underneath. Basically, I'll buy the truck but not buying the paint job. Primer spotted all over a truck I'm not crazy about. Just bugs me. I had this truck from CA. I took a gamble assuming the sun at the paint and the owner in the land of the best old trucks used primer over the "ugly" spots, not body work. I don't have any pictures from after I wiped the primer off with lacquer thinner, but my hunch was right. No rust, just chips and scratches. I love this kind of truck straight out of the '70s. It would have been a beautiful nicest truck in town back then, and not aged. That is my favorite.

That was the vibe I desired for the blue & white '72 K/20 Highlander I had. I even went with white spoke wheels, which I was the first guy to hate on in the '70s once they went on everything under the sun, even cars! The set of wheels and tiures sat in my barn a long time before I rebuilt the undercarriage. Damn rats or cast, or other must have peed on them and some spots of powder coat popped off with rusted bare metal. PERFECT!

Finally got the rims paint matched properly and the caps on the '79 Dodge. Also needed to put some replacement front leaf springs in as the driver's front was sagging. Tune up and fluid changes are next.
I'm still feeling this truck deserves a proper respray in it's factory metallic blue.

The updates to your wheel/tire setup look great! Painted or patina, either route you go it's a unique looking truck.

Thanks guys. Whoever owned this truck took care of it other than not having a place to park it in the shade. The interior and under hood are in very original condition. I'll post up some pics one of these days if I can ever get some time to tinker with it some more.

'89 on the dunes last year and my 10 year old gear head.
Funny story with this truck is I have had it around 4 years and was thinking about selling it. My son said "you can't sell it, we haven't driven it on the dunes yet". He was right because it turned out to be a great dune truck last year and we used it a lot so it's a keeper.
