Transfer case shift levers
 

Are there differences between the years? I have a 1970 with an NP205 and if I want to put the case in 4-low I have to cut a notch out of the hump, meaning it hits the back of the hole before it goes all the way back.

Someone in my build thread suggested I may have one from a later model but I don't know what the differences are.

Yes there is. And I see you have a 4 speed. So this makes it a bit harder or more critical on the bending. Here's an excerpt I posted on an older post.

If you look at my stick you will see it bends toward the driver. What you don't see, under the boot, is the stick has two 45 bends. So it comes off the transfer about 2" the takes a 45 bend to the driver for 4" the bends 45 back up through the boot. If you sit in the truck it looks like you wont be able to shift the trans if you put it into 4Lo. But the stick kind of drops down when shoved up into 4Lo. So the bends can be deceiving.

for the 72 with a 4spd,your tcase shifter should be straight with a bend close to the top bent towards the seat, i will try and get a pic of mine

Here's a picture of the shifter with the hump removed. The shifter is usually straight up, but I was fabricating a mount. This is a 72 K5 with np205.

This shows the bends jeffahart was talking about near the bottom.

There are several shifters for early NP205.

69-early 70= the driver side bend like Jeff posted

70-71= bend toward the pivot is longer placing the shifter in the center of the hump

71-72= shorter lower bend placing shifter offset to pass side as in pic above

73-?= Still offset to pass side but shorter and straight up above hump with no bend by knob

I'll try to dig out some shifters and post a few pics for you

Here's some pics. I annotated the first pic with red lines through the pivot bolt and the pin that goes through the sick at the rail linkage. I think if you get the bend to the linkage correct you can bend the stick where you want if after it exits the hump. Mine is a stock setup, I photoed yesterday when I was under the truck. I recently had the stick out but didn't take pics. The sick takes a couple 45 bends toward the driver, one under the hump and one at top of the boot. I think my stick is significantly longer than the one on ebay, but it looked like the pivot bolt to linkage configuration would work.
