The Big Ten

Decided to finally do a Build Thread on my 79 Big Ten. Originally I bought this truck for a flip in Dec '21. It sat on the back burner for awhile, once I had got some other projects out of the way I got on it..( a year and a half later..)
It did sell but the deal fell thru cause the engine that was in it was a 305 and not the original 350. I have decided to keep it cause 79 is my birth year and this truck is pretty solid with the exception of the normal rocker and cab corners needing repair. Plus these round eyes are getting up there in price and I probably wont be able to find one at a decent price anymore. So here it goes.

Found it on the Dallas FB Marketplace. Price was decent, pics looked good, so I headed up to Princeton, TX with an empty trailer and some cash. It belonged to the Seller's father in law. He had worked in the oil fields and this was his transportation. He had bought it new and drove it everyday. It had sat since 2007, seller pulled it out after the father in law died. These are the FB pics.

A deal was made and I was headed back south to Houston. I stopped by my buddies shop where I had some rallies with whitewalls stashed. I gave the truck a good pressure washing and threw the whitewalls on. Once I got it home I gave it another bath, this time with some soap ad degreaser. Looked better already.

After a fluid change, replacing the master cylinder, brakes hoses and flushing the old brake fluid out.. I took it down the road for some fresh gas. It ran ok.. definitely needed some more love. How about that bumper... lol

The stepside wasn't growing on me so I decided to swap the beds. I had bought a 78 fleetside with the same black/patina a few months before for another project. It would be a close match to the 79. So I decided to use it.

What a difference the fleetside made.. I didnt realize how close the patina actually was. the Fleetside was the right move. I pulled the rallies with whitewalls off and threw on some white lettered rallies.. oh yea.. I like where this was going.

Now that I had the truck looking better.. an altitude adjustment was in order, I scrapped some extra parts that i had been hording, some CPP tubulars, Belltech drop spindles and I ordered a flip kit from Tinworks, some new shocks and I had a full drop.. I'm digging the stance, but I'm trying to keep the factory inner fenders on.. so Imma have to go a lil higher.. IDK though..I do love a low low stance... so we will see.

Cool truck. Interested in what you decide regarding the factory inner fenders. I'm faced with the same dilemma on my 2wd K5.

If I want to stay this low imma have to get some aftermarket ones, either Slosh tubs or Hart Fab.. They're not cheap.. And I dont want to run with no tubs.. Engine gets trashed quick.... So raising it will be the probable choice.

Raise it up a smidge and drive on. I'm digging this rig for sure. And didn't realize you was as young as you are.

Love the stance. If you have some time and don't mind cutting the inner fenders, you can raise the OEM mounts up 2-3". That's what I did with mine "His name is George". Inner fenders stay OEM and save yourself $800.
