Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

Well, we have brought home another project, but this time something a little newer. We are wanting to offer more for these 88-98 trucks, and what better way than to build one! We have some new products already planned.

The base for our build will be a 1990 short bed, regular cab. As it sits now, it has a 383 (so the owner said), but we plan to do a 5.3 LS swap in it. Of course, big brakes and 20" wheels all around. The interior will be changed over to gray and have it all re-done. Not sure what to do on the color scheme, but will retain the darker red color.

Look forward to working on this truck. Have been lurking through other projects here and like what we see!

Glad to see the project & also your interest in offering more for the 88-98s.

That looks like a great truck to start with.

Thanks guys. It isn't in bad shape and not too messed with over the years. It does have it's issues, but we will take care of that.

Jwall... love your 88-98 truck! One of my favorites.

Thanks!

I am going to see what we can come up with. I know big brake options lack, so that will definitely be on the list.

Are you going to be putting an ididit column in this thing? I would like to put one in my 90 but I'm not sure what length I need. I hope you do and write up a tech article on it so I know what I'm getting into...lol

Pro Performance 03-01-2016 05:51 PM

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

We won't be doing an edit, as it will be more of a budget friendly build. However, we will be swapping to a tilt, and can measure what the length is when we do it.

Nice!

Let us know if you ever need anything else, we can get all kinds of parts for them. We should be doing the brake kit this month on it.

Which wheels do you plan on? What backspacing will you be using on the front and rear?
Can't wait to see the build! :metal:

I am going to run the Hot Rods by Boyd wheels that I pulled from my '63. Haven't measured for backspace, backspace yet.

Any updates? Has Baer finished their brake setup to work on 88-98 yet?
Which HRBB wheels are you using?

Pro Performance 05-24-2016 11:20 AM

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

Just got the front end update installed, but still have to get the new smoothie paintable bumper on. Just test fitting parts now, and eventually will paint the truck.

The brake setup should be finished about 60 days from now. They already started on the front.

I am going to use my old wheels on my '63 and put them on this truck. The HRBB Smoothie 3.

Hey excited to see the progress on this build. As far as brakes go Little Shop Mfg. has a big brake kit composed of Wilwood parts that they offer http://www.littleshopmfg.com/big-disc-brakes/

but if Baer is going to offer something as well then that's great! The more the merrier!

standard brake upgrades and rear disc brake conversions are readily available for these trucks

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

Thanks! And agree more options is better. Baer will re-release their kits and we will adapt our Revelator 14" kit to the trucks too.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out. I see you're from CC, I'm from there originally! I still go down and visit family a couple times a year.

Where'd you get the front end parts? I need a paintable front bumper, grill, and maybe a roll pan. I wasn't sure how the fitment of LMC parts are these days.

Also, do you know the price range for the upcoming Baer 6 piston setups?

I got them online and also some from LMC truck. The roll pan and handle relocator was from Grant Customs when they had a 50% off sale. The grille fit well, and didn't see any issues with it at all.

The Baer 6P kit will be $2,795 on a stock spindle and $3,145 on a drop spindle.

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

I'm doing a full restomod and LMC is where I order the vast majority of my parts from. I've never had a problem.

I'm glad Baer is giving us another option but too rich for my blood.

Yes we were all sad to see Grant get out of the parts business. I have one of their smooth cowls on my truck and it fits like a glove.

No updates on the build Travis?

Pro Performance 07-11-2016 08:46 PM

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

Unfortunately not. It is at Baer Brakes right now getting measured for some new products from Baer. As well as adapting our Revelator kit to this body style. We have been busy with shows also, but plan to get moving fast on it when it gets back from Baer. Lower it down, brakes will be done, and then off to paint.....

Got a pile of parts waiting for it.

What's the backspacing on your 20's?

Are you doing a 5/7 or 4/6?

Pro Performance 08-08-2016 04:57 PM

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

It will be a 4/6. The fronts will have a 5.25" and the rears 6.00"

Sweet, I was looking at 5.5" and 6" BS for mine. That's on 20x8.5 and 20x10, right?
What size tires will you be running?
Did Baer finish up with your truck yet?

Yep, we are running a 20x8.5 / 20x10 setup on this truck. 245/40 and a 295/40.

Baer is just about finishing up the brake kit for us. The rear end in these trucks vary so much, so just trying to work out all the details as much as possible. The suburbans are different than trucks, blazers different than suburbans, and just no real consistency on housing ends for this body style.

Nothing yet, and just waiting for Baer to finalize our new brake kit on it. SEMA kind of backed that up a little.

They are 16's and believe 16x8's, as they were on there when we got the truck.

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

Almost, and I am anxious! I got word the front brakes were done, and just have to do final fitting. It has been a crazy year and developing these new systems have taken a little longer. As soon as we get it back, were going to drop it, and then right off to paint.

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

Any chance you may develop a rack and pinion conversion for these trucks?

Pro Performance 12-02-2016 11:02 AM

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

We don't have it on our list, but can definitely look into it. Think it would be a good addition.

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

Put me down for one of those units if you can make it happen. Also, it suddenly dawned on me that you are in very close proximity to Fesler. His statements on Facebook lead me to believe he will make whatever for whoever as long as there is some demand and a donor vehicle to prototype the parts. I would be interested in one of his flush fit windshields and some billet hood hinges if you can make any of that happen I would be eternally grateful.

Pro Performance 12-05-2016 01:39 PM

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

Absolutely will put you in line. It has taken longer than expected to develop the kit, but we prefer things are 100% before releasing a new product. It will require the HD 1.25" spindle though. Depending on year and configuration of the truck, you may have to change spindles.

Fesler is about an hour away. Unfortunately we have the truck scheduled to go into paint directly after brakes.

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

Love my truck but the steering is like driving by a rope, very sloppy.I'm sure there are a lot of folks that would line up for a kit..

Pro Performance 12-12-2016 02:12 PM

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

You have convinced me, and will see what I can mock up. The use of the 79-93 rack is a great one to use, since it has easy mounting. What I find to be a issue, it the turning radius is decreased.

If we made a rack work and had to use that one, would that be a problem enough to make you not buy?

NJ1 12-12-2016 10:25 PM

Re: Pro Performance: C1500 RCSB Build

Ok let's clarify ...

Do mean the turning radius will increase with a rack and pinion conversion?

If so, how much is the radius increased by?

Also , how would address bump steer with a lowered truck and the conversion?

I think it may reduce turning radius, just form my experience with that rack on the C10's. Now, I could be completely wrong, but would have to mock it up first, and that will tell us everything we need to know.

I am not sure on bump steer, and that is something that would be determined after we make the kit. We can do things to reduce the bump steer, if we find it is excessive.
