$400 for s10 chassis?

Well after a bunch of stuff came up im able to get back on my truck... Ive given up on using a stock frame and im going the s10 route. I found an 88 single cab longbed chassis that includes all suspension, steering box, and rear axle for 400, does that seem fair? only other frame i have found includes a bad motor and trans for $500. What have you guys paid?

Re: $400 for s10 chassis?

there's no way in the world I would pay $400 for just a frame unless it had custom suspension on it, and it would depend on what they did to it.....

Re: $400 for s10 chassis?

I'm picking one up for the hauling tomorrow. X cab with a body on it that'll go to scrap and pay for my fuel. $400 sounds a bit high. I've paid $100-150 for them as rollers in the past. The rear axle is too narrow unless you're going to tub it so having that isn't really a benefit unless you need to move it a lot.

I got a 4x4 reg cab long bed roller for $100 last year.

Re: $400 for s10 chassis?

I actually bought mine running for that price up here... the brakes were shot in it... whoopdedoo! It had alot of body rust on it, but that was of no concern to me. I sold the seats (leather) for $150, traded the front end sheetmetal for a 4x4 rear axle, sold the engine for $200 and traded the transmission for a custom lazer fabbed rear roll pan.

You may find it worth while to pay a little extra for something in better shape (frame wise) with enough decent remaining parts to part out and recoupe your money back...

Best of luck!
Ted.

Re: $400 for s10 chassis?

Im with giles70 on this. seems a bit high for just a chassis.
I bought a complete running '91 s10 for mine for 500$. Although it did not have a title.
But i stripped it and parted almost all of it out....so far ive only "paid" 165$ for the parts i wanted to keep which included frame, suspension, 700r4, hanging brake pedal, parking brake, and some others. i gave away the cab.
Ive still yet to sell the engine, computer, wiring, bed, a/c, etc,...so i may actually make money off this and still have what i want.

I've had my eye out for one for a while now and cant seem to find just a roller. All we seem to have out here is complete trucks with 200K + miles for at least $1200.

Clear lake $280

This complete truck should be 4.3L V6 and 5 speed $600, you could recoup most if not all of your money if it is :)

Re: $400 for s10 chassis?

I paid $400 for STOCK 47-53 frame that was nice and straight and very little rust.

I'm doing corvette suspensions and boxing etc and didnt want my truck all torn down for years while I finished all that so I'm doing all that to the second frame.

Have not regretted the $400 for a second.

Re: $400 for s10 chassis?

I paid the same for an '83 without the bed. Totally rusted out but the local scrapyard was paying $200/ton. By the time I took all I needed out the engine/trans/front clip and cab made $180 in scrap. Net $220.

Depending on everthing else it's a reasonable price. Here in West TX the single cab long beds are becoming hard to find. Plenty of extended cabs but just the additional work to shorten them up.

Re: $400 for s10 chassis?

I paid 200 for mine, but it was so rusty I had to put at least 200 into material to get it back into good condition. So my opinion if the frame is in good condition 400 is borderline fair.

Re: $400 for s10 chassis?

looks like it may be my only option if i want it sooner than later, other guy wanted 280 for a bare frame nothing bolted to it

Re: $400 for s10 chassis?

Guy I work with is selling his 97 S10 2WD for $300. Body is pretty beat but the frame is solid, and its roadworthy. He offered it to me for scrap price (200), but I just don't have a use for it.

Re: $400 for s10 chassis?

I'd go after the one with the 5 speed if it is a 4.3L. Same bolt pattern as a V8.

As for $400 for a stock AD frame, wow. That's a lot around here. Usually $100-150. I've cut up 2 this year. Looks like #3 to go soon. The stock rear ends are good and heavy for scrap.

It is all where you are and what day it is.

Correction, I just sold the motor today so now I'm UP 35$ on my s10 purchase. :)

Re: $400 for s10 chassis?

I'd rather give something away than support the scrapping industry. It is off the subject but god I can't stand hearing about scrapping. It is just supporting the very people that destroy these old vehicles. Original frames to most are sought to be worthless, while others have paid top dollar. To me a good rolling OG frame would be no more than 150 and an s-10 frame already stripped down no more than 150. I got two longbed frames for 100 each and a complete s-10 longbed minus engine for 150, I traded the trans and will keep the body parts for 50 years until some youngster knocks on my door and wants to buy them cause he is restoring an s-10!! I have the land to do that, cause we stole it from the indians. it's a crazy ol world.

Re: $400 for s10 chassis?

Around here the scrap yards are paying 150 and up for S-10 size trucks with a title and they pick them up. That has driven the price of doner rigs up a lot as you used to be able to get one for dragging it off if it had a dead engine.

I'd still go for the complete truck and plan on selling off the pieces that I didn't need including the nose, bed and pieces off the cab that someone would buy.

Just gonna have to be patient, im really wanting to avoid modifying a different wheelbase s10

Re: $400 for s10 chassis?

Back when the price of scrap was higher I would see tons of AD 1.5 tons and higher in the recyclers yard. Made me sick and mad because once they are in there no one can get anything off of it. Most of them looked as though they had been driven there. 99 to life I'm with you I sell my stuff really cheap to some one that is going to use it.

Re: $400 for s10 chassis?

ipguy, the longbeds seem to be harder to find, and are what we need for the swap. but a shortbed would work too, just make the box shorter. I've seen a few of those and I actually think they look cool. I'm goin with the original (OG) frame on my next build. I want to start using them and collecting them, so they don't go to the scrap. Plus I think it ads value and character to the truck, even if/when modified.

To all the others, I'm not trying to get on a scrap subject, but I just feel very strongly about it. I mean it hurts us in sooo many ways. That is why I'd rather donate or leave stuff sit than to go make a couple hundred bucks and wait in line and see all these parasites scrapping their grandmas tupperware. I recycle everything I can, but metals I keep for a rainy day. I mean why scrap all this old nostalgic stuff, when it just gets melted down an shipped to china to make worthless ikea furniture and new crappy modern cars that get totaled if you hit a curb.

cash for clunkers and scrappers are making everything so much harder and driving up prices and they are just taking all our resources and soon there will be not many options for us, which seems like the case already.

lpguy 09-14-2011 03:32 PM

Re: $400 for s10 chassis?

Do you have any links to these shortbed builds your talking about? I may just be skimming right over them... My old frame deffinately wont be going to a scrapper.. I think its too hacked up to use original front half but behind firewall area its:smoke: still solid enough for a new front clip, but thats more custom work than im wanting to get into.
