69 overdrive tranny price

I have a 69 overdrive tranny complete with governor, solenoid, and shift cable that a good friend wants to buy. When I pulled it, it worked fine except that the synchronizers were about shot.

Can anyone give me a fair price that I should ask? I have searched forum but post I found were old. Nothing on Ebay.

Also have 4 bolt side plate overdrive tranny but its disassembled but has solenoid and governor.

Any ideas on it would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Except??? It's a core.
A year ago you posted , >>. It needs syncros and either front bearing or needles in cluster - some noise. <<

If you have to think about the price this hard, maybe your good friend needs new friends.

^^^ I agree with the 2 above (except for the tough love part). But basically you have a trans that has to be rebuilt...a core. If he was a "GOOD" friend I think that I would sell it super cheap or just give it to him. But that's me

Re: 69 overdrive tranny price

I have rebuilt one of these trannys and its currently in my 67 running great. By the way they stopped making these is 68. The question is whats the trans out of? How many rings on the input shaft, how long is the rod on the solenoid 1" or 1.5" Our trucks only came with a 1.5 which CANNOT be found. they do repop the 1". So if the solenoid is bad you either have to rebuild the solenoid and rewind it like I did mine, or pay 600 bucks like I did for a NOS one still in the original GM box. I bought it before I attempted a rebuild. It is now a spare to my original that I know i will never get my money back from. I paid 300 for my trans out of a 67 with a cracked case "which I couldn't see". Also does the governor work correctly! All these items I would not give over 300 for a core. But after a complete overhaul like mine I wouldn't sell it for less than 1500. Its the coolest transmission on the planet to me. I can run 75 at 2100 rpms. Pm me if he doesn't want it. I would like a spare. Just keep in mind, It is a core that is obsolete and parts are not available for! If mine explodes tomorrow I am screwed and will convert to a 4 speed muncie on the tree with a gear vendors overdrive. I love a Three on the tree!

Thats crazy dude. I was thinking the same way! never followed through on the muncie 4 speed but always thought it was feasable.

Its very doable! reverse just turns into 1rst and go in the regular order after that. Reverse turns into an under the seat or dash pull handle!

I put a Muncie M21 in my '67 Stepper back in the late '80's, exactly the way steveo said. 4 on the tree with a "T" handle under the dash for reverse. Worked great.

I would love to hear a M22 rock crusher in mine and see the the face of someone off the line when then seen that old 3 on the tree slamming the gears. Thats the only fallback of my saginaw with overdrive. I have a little over 450hp and have to drive it like its got 200hp in fear of blowing the overdrive. So far so good though

I forgot to mention the noise - which is not load but there. The governor works fine. The only parts I am missing are the original relay and kickdown switch which I rigged from aftermarket stuff.

The man I bought it from said it came out of a 69 truck. It bolted right in to my 70.

Thanks for the responses.

I would also pay up to $300 as a core.
