Leaf my truck alone!
Ok, I'm going a little crazy. I keep getting leaves popping out of my vents, or worse yet, stuck in the blower fan!
These are still last years stock, and this year's leaves are about to drop. Has anyone found a way to keep leaves out of these trucks? Thanks! Jim |
Re: Leaf my truck alone!
There are aftermarket trash guards that can be installed under the cowl. Also pull the side vents out in the cab and shove a vacuum cleaner flexible hose down through the hole to suck all the crap out

Re: Leaf my truck alone!
Thanks for the quick reply! I've dug in by hand, but the vacuum is a great idea, and ill see if I can find the trash guards.
Thanks again! Jim |

Here's a picture of the trash guards installed on my truck. Not only do they keep stuff out, they mask that ugly void below.

Re: Leaf my truck alone!
i siliconed a piece of metal window screen on the underneath of my cowl vent. it works great and i just pass my air nozzle over it once in a while and its clean. i was going to use plastic screen but it wouldnt hold up in the sun.

Re: Leaf my truck alone!
You can used almost anything to make a cowl screen. A few years ago my neighbors had new gutters put on their house. A piece of gutter guard ended up in my yard and nobody claimed it. It's powdercoated expanded steel and just big enough. I trimmed it to fit and it now lives under my cowl. :D

Re: Leaf my truck alone!
I remember someone telling me they used normal screen material and just used small self tapping screws to hold it down... I might do that for a cheap setup.

Re: Leaf my truck alone!
Can somebody please explain how to remove the wiper arms ? Do you just tap them off ? Sure need to remove the cowl on my `69 truck , it's full of pine straw . THANKS !!

Re: Leaf my truck alone!
There should be a little tab under the head of the wiper you pull down with a screw driver and the wiper should work its way off. That never happens. Pull the tab down with the screw driver and then use the screw driver to help you pull up from under the head. Wear gloves so you don't slice your hands. hopefully that makes sense.

Re: Leaf my truck alone!
I am still pulling leaves out of my cab from the previous owner. It has been in the garage since I bought it with no trees within 50 yards...
Need to vacuum out my vents. Bill |
Re: Leaf my truck alone!

Re: Leaf my truck alone!
Screens are a great Idea. Think I'll be fabing one of those.
Once a year, I open the kick panel vents and cram a garden hose in the cowl to flush it out thoroughly. I also douche out the cab corners, rocker panels and the doors (Yes, this makes the interior wet). Let the water run 'till it runs clear. You might be amazed how much crap comes out, then let it set out and dry in the sun. I flush out all four fenders several times a year. Happy truck |

More pictures of the leaf protection.
I used Aluminum mesh from a roll. Attachment 1688988 I cut it to fit and painted the top green so the aluminum wouldn't show. Attachment 1688989 Held into place with clothespins and popsicle sticks. Attachment 1688990 I used black silicon gasket maker to glue it and hold it in. Attachment 1688991 After it set I put it back on the truck. Attachment 1688995 |
