Fuel Pump Not Clicking When Ignition Turned On - 1998 5.7 Vortec
I replaced the pump about 10 years ago with a Delco pump and the truck has been sitting for about 5 years. Can the pump go bad by just sitting?
Just tried to get it going again and it will run for a few seconds when I pour gas in the plenum but then goes dead again. The gas gauge is also pegged at 90 degrees past Full. Is that a sign of a bad pump? I did what this guy says but still no clicking of the pump even when straight wired from the battery to the pin for the relay. Thanks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rn_nMPhhX0s |

I would say you have a bad ground. The gauge uses resistance between ground and the fuel level arm in the tank, and the same ground is used for power to the pump. Check your grounds first, I'll bet you find one that's corroded a bit.

Thanks. I'll check it out.
You say 'grounds'. Are there more than one? I found a thread where the guy had a bad ground coming right out from the pump with the wire bolted to the top of the frame rail by the tank. I'll check that one first. |

I would start with that one, and work your way forward. Chances are if everything else is working ok, then that's probably the culprit. Check engine to battery, engine to firewall, etc. Schematics are available in a sticky on here I think
