striped th350 pan bolt holes
On my th350 one of the two bolt holes for the pan that are closest to the bell housing are stripped. Is it possible to put a nut on the other end like you are able to do with the rest of the bolts?

Helicoil or nut-sert.

Re: striped th350 pan bolt holes
Thanks for your reply and I will probably do it if I can not put a bolt on the other end. With that said the question still stands. Is it possible to get any nuts inside there?

Re: striped th350 pan bolt holes
I would probably just tap it out to the next size, which might be metric, and have one odd ball bolt in my tranny.

Helicoil is the other option, which works well and is easy to install on aluminum. Just remember to break off the tab before installing the bolt. |
Re: striped th350 pan bolt holes
So from what I am hearing you all don't think that I would be able to put a nut on the other side?

Is this one of the corner bolt holes with 5/16"-18 threads? If so, your next step up in size is 3/8". But either way, you may not have room to drill and tap. Metric probably won't work here because 8mm is only .050" larger than 5/16", and 10mm is larger than even 3/8". |

Re: striped th350 pan bolt holes
Does the nope mean you think I can put nuts on the other side or that I can not?

Re: striped th350 pan bolt holes
I'm sorry I go the feeling that you misread my post when you asked about the corner bolts. I am talking about the pan on a 350 transmission.

Re: striped th350 pan bolt holes
So it is a 5/16ths bolt. Should I use a 5/16ths drill bit and a 3/8 -16 tap to make a new hole?
It looks as though if I take off the fly wheel cover I can get to the other end of those holes but I am worried whether or not I will have room between the fly wheel and the nuts. |
Re: striped th350 pan bolt holes
Well I ended up using the Helicoil and they worked awesome. Thanks for all the help. I am just glad that the two bolts that are next to the tail shaft are not stripped.
