Pictures of Rocker Box Mounting???
 

Does anyone have a picture and details on the mounting of their rocker boxes? Mine were welded in position so I'm a little unclear on how they are SUPPOSE to mount. I'm guessing that the slotted holes are for bolt alignment along the main body support. Is the rocker box suppose to attach to the outside body panel rocker section? Mine were actually welded on both sides. And correct me if I'm messed up here, but are they suppose to be welded in place? What a pain to remove if that is the case.

I'm sure they were welded at the factory.

The welds go it the holes and notches. And yes they are a pain to remove. There are a few bolts that hold them on but every where else including the front lip is welded.

I unbolted the ends, and will use a plasma cutter to get the rest of it out. I'll be fabrcating gas tanks to full that void. How structural are the rocker boxes? Why are they there? I want to be able to remove these tanks once they are made.

The rocker boxes are THE structural element there. Without them your doors won't line up anymore.

They are there to make up the rigidity lost when you cut the top and back out of a pickup cab!

Good to know!! I'll be sure to make them plenty srong and have them mount appropriately. Without them, will the body sag between the front and rear body mounts? Would it be a good idea ti supplement these? I'd really like a lot of input before I get started.

Well, I should have guessed. I didn't see any bolt holes but figured that surely the PO had taken a short cut. I guess that explains some of the holes he had cut in the bottom of the rocker pans for access.

Yes, a major pan in the butt! My wife thinks I'm nuts but the more I fight with this truck, the more I love it!!!!

Make sure the top is on when putting it all back together. It will put everything in alignment.

I no longer have a top. I gave it away a few months ago to a board member. Going full convertible.

Do you have the factory assembly manual? If you do, it has a grid that you can use to get the right measurements for alignment.

I'll look for that tonight. I spent about a half hour going through the book, but it's very easy to miss a piece of information. Boy, an index would be really helpful! :)

I found the easiest way to get them off was to break out the Boz'all! A nice new blade helped a lot too. Had to do some wedging to get the blade in between all the welds. You also have to grind out the welds at the front where it mounts to the floor board seam. After that, it should drop off. If you find your assembly manual, could you give me the door opening measurements? I'm reassembling without the top on at this point. Thanks, Jeff.

When I take my hard top off in the summer my drivers side door doesn't close very well. It's even popped open when the body flexes enough.

I got my new assembly manual in the mail yesterday(Thanks ****************!!) and it says that you use shims in the cab mounts for position 2 and 3 to set the door opening alignment. You might try either replacing or shimming your cab mounts to help with that door closing issue. Jeff.
