Yep. The floor and firewall will be 100% flat. Lots of leg room then, and easy to lay carpet.

Right on :metal:

I've seen it all now. Some sort of bed cover would look cool.

I am scared! It somehow works though. How is fuel mileage?

Re: Project Tornado: A Natural Disaster

Underhood will be basic, likely a rubbermaid container with a frame built to sit in there like a trunk that is easily removable for shows when the time comes.

It may get a bed cover someday, and if so it will be a flush mount vinyl unit. The aircleaner/carb/intake combo I have will place the lid 1" above the top of the bed, so it would only need a slight dome. This is not the setup that is pictured.

It actually works quite well, it just needs a wheel alignment and some TLC and finishing. It's a scary idea, and in fact a wild ride, but it's really no different than any hotrod, just takes the right respect to keep it tamed down.

Re: Project Tornado: A Natural Disaster

Thought I posted these in my build thread before, but apparently it was in my patch panel thread instead, so here they are in the right place

Anyways, here's the new shifter and trans tunnel. The shifter is a Lokar 32" model. It may look like it bolted in, but believe me...... There was a LOT more engineering than that, including a lever as the TH425 has a reverse shift pattern from a TH400 and this shifter was designed to be trans mounted.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...e/IMG_2998.jpg

The trans tunnel is no longer a tunnel at all, as there is no longer a trans. Meet "Anti-Tunnel". It will continue this way up the firewall as well.

Remember that ugly plywood bedfloor and little gas tank? Gone as well, and well replaced in my opinion.

I just don't know what to say to this thread... that is about the oddest thing yet that I've seen done to a truck.

Re: Project Tornado: A Natural Disaster

That's awesome- you wrote "The Anti-Tunnel" on it. This is insane. All of it.

You could blower the motor and build some scoops around the cab somewhere. Like, a pair of late model Mustang side scoops in the bedsides or something.

Again, just insane!

Re: Project Tornado: A Natural Disaster

We had a guy do that out here to a Holden ute back in the early 90's, think he used caddy parts, then after about six months he got the itch again and dropped one in the front to match. Its a shame I can't find any photos on the net.

Really cool and radical ride there BTW.

Re: Project Tornado: A Natural Disaster

Firewall is done as much as I want to do it for this year. This winter I will be pulling the fenders and brake assembly and doing a full width skin.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...e/IMG_3077.jpg

The interior is coming along, no more ugly van column or stubby shifter.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...e/IMG_3080.jpg

The inner bed skins and fenders are tacked. Still need to make a front panel and a gate.

That is too cool! On a side note, how come you didn't paint that beast Rocket Gold? That engine makes me miss my old Cutlass.

Man, you must work like a maniac! That engine is looking great! :metal:

That hefty chassis needs some paint too.
