Front coils, when to replace?

We have a 69 1/2- 2 wd that I am wondering about, we done a disc conversion, and replaced the shocks. New ball joints as well. The front end seems to clunk and seem really solid ride, the 1/2 tons I have had before seemed to almost float without all the noise from hitting bumps in the road. My question is could it be the springs are shot? Is there a tell tale way of knowing if I should replace them?

Thank you.

They can be worn/failing depending on how the truck has been used throughout it's life. An immediate indicator would be uneven heights @ each side. Ride quality would be another (too soft/too stiff).

If you feel they might be suspect, it can't hurt to replace them w/fresh parts.
