'81 blazer/jimmy tailgate
I just picked up an 81 jimmy roller. It will need lots of work but one of the most glaring problems is with the tailgate. The window is half way down and won't move. When I get time I'll take it apart and see if I can tell what the problem is. My first question is are there any components of a suburban tailgate that interchange? Possibly the entire gate? I don't have any experience with blazers or jimmies so any info will be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: '81 blazer/jimmy tailgate
To my knowledge, none of it interchanges.

Had a similar issue a while back on my '79. Turned out I had a blown fuse, but it was not obvious.

Re: '81 blazer/jimmy tailgate
68Timber is correct - there are no interchange parts between the Blazer/Jimmy tailgate and a Suburban tailgate. This has always surprised me given the General's clear intent to maintain a common parts bin on other items even between the trucks and the other divisions like Buick.
None of the major and interesting parts interchange, including things such as the gate shell itself, the glass, the channels and sash, the regulator, or even the electric motor. Oddly I think the Suburban motor MIGHT by common to the big B-body wagons, but I may be remembering this incorrectly. Either way I'd love to know the story from the either the design studio or the engineering office on how the Blazer & Suburban gates were allowed to take such different paths. It seems so unlike the General of the early 70's. |

Thanks for the info. It'll be awhile before I can work on this so I'll start keeping an eye out at the local bone yards.
