Adding fog lamps
 

My daughter has an 08 Silverado 1500 She wrecked the front bumper so when repairing I used the fog lamp ends and bought fog lamps. I don't like cutting into factory wiring and wondered if anyone here has done the upgrade with GM parts and would know what is needed as far as a harness and where it plugs in.

I have an 08' GMC that I added factory driving lights too. I purchased the GM headlight switch that has the driving light button, it is a direct swap for the non-light version. I then Googled the wiring information and found the single pin out on the underside of the underhood fuse block. I used a GM connector I had laying around for the pin and just shoved it into the location on the fuse box. You have to add the fuse to the box for the system and then route the power wire to both lights. I used the factory ground bolt on each side to ground the lights. Everything has been working fine for me so far, hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, So did you pin to the fuse from under the fuse box? I see where the fuse goes. Then the switch is already wired to the fuse?

Yes, you have to use the two release levers to be able to lift the fuse box. I also had to take the base out and unclip some of the wiring looms into the fuse panel to have enough room to work. There is a open spot that the pin goes in and engages the relay I believe. The switch is plug and play, the wiring already exists between the switch and the fuse box. You should get the light on the cluster to turn on when the switch is activated.

I installed fog lights on my '11 Yukon with the GM kit. Replace the headlight switch, connect the harness under the fuse box, that was about it. My truck had the fuse and relay in the fuse box in it already.

The GM kit was too rich for my blood, $400 for two lights, a switch and a small harness... No thanks, I bought the $20 switch and $35/pair aftermarket lamps on E-Bay and spent a little time making my own harness. ;)

I bought the bumper ends and aftermarket fog lamps when doing the collision reapair I made the harness for the lights already I just didn't want to start drilling holes in the firewall and tapping into the wiring to add an aftermarket switch and relay. I saw the underhood fuse box ready to go so just needed to know about the harness in the cab. Nice that it is good to go with an updated headlamp switch. I ordered a used one off E Bay already.

OK I just returned from a week in Vegas with my wife and had a great vacation. The Ebay switch was waiting when I returned. Plugged it in and spent an hr. digging through old wire harness parts looking for the lug that fit the fuse box. Finally found one in my junk trailer on a Caddy steering column. Plugged in wired to my home made light harness and everything works as it should. She is moving to Vermont tomorrow so just got it together in time. Thanks again for the advice I feel better with factory relay,switch and fuse arrangement.

if you shop around you can find everything for about 85 dollars to do the factory setup
