67-72 tilt wheels
 

Anybody know anything about CPP or Ididit steering columns. Good or bad. Looking to replace one that I pieced together years ago.

70 shortfleet on here rebuilds factory tilts and sells them. they look great. CPP I just wouldn't. ididit are nice but expensive.

I've had two IDIDIT columns. Both have been great! My dad has a Flaming River column in his 56. I'm not all that crazy about it, but it's ok. I'm not sure who's column CPP sells.

Stay away from flaming river they are terrible. IIRC the CPP columns are IDIDIT columns.

I put a ididit column in a 48 pickup that I built and have one in my 37 coupe now and have had no problems. I bought a column from 70shortfleet for my c10 and love it. Would buy from him again.

I recently bought and installed an IDIDIT floor shift tilt, its a nice column but not nearly as nice as a factory column.
Here is why, I had to work on it, the horn contact got melted from a bad horn relay.

The upper shaft bearing preload is not adjustable like the factory column. The bearing is preloaded by the horn contact which is plastic, there is a very heavy spring under the horn contact that preloads the bearing, a circlip holds the pressure...very poor design. Its ridiculous they didn't just thread the shaft like GM didit (pun intended)

Factory columns from trucks, vans and RVs work in our trucks, and we know they’re dependable. I’d stay away from the aftermarket if you can. There are plenty out there to be had. You can find them in good shape at reasonable prices as well.

Thanks guys for all the helpful information. I am going to try and contact 70short fleet. This sounds like the best way to go.

That’s the best choice, by far. Nothing’s better than a fresh, tight factory tilt and the ones he sells are absolutely beautiful.

KevsClassics refurbished a van tilt column for my Blazer several years ago. ... don't remember what it cost but worth every nickel. Like brand new.
