Prep for First Test Drive After Restoration
Title kind of says it all.
This Saturday will be getting exhaust put on my K5 and it should be ready for some trips around the block, to the gas station, etc. I haven't driven the K5 more than 30 feet in the past 10 years so...this is pretty exciting, but also pretty nerve wracking! So all that said - help me prep for things to watch out for on its maiden journey out of my driveway! Here's my list: -ensure all fluid levels are good -check brake light + blinker function (should be good but will double check) -start slow and ensure brake function is adequate -keep and eye on engine temperature, ensure gauge works, ensure electric fans come on -ensure alt is charging, see volt gauge -stop after short time, around the block once? to check for leaks what about... -bring misc tools? screw drivers to tighten rad or fuel line clamps? Please add anything else you all like to do or like to watch out for! Thanks! |

Re: Prep for First Test Drive After Restoration
Idle to operating temp then turn off and check for leaks before leaving the driveway. Make sure parking brake working fine. Use an escort vehicle.
Cheers and good luck. The build looks great. If all goes well drive it to Zacharys Pizza and grab a spinach and mushroom stuffed pizza for me :) |
Re: Prep for First Test Drive After Restoration
Thanks everyone. All good tips. Especially about getting it to operating temp in the driveway.
If anyone else has tips I'd love to hear them. |
