1959 duel master cylinder with power booster

I would like to install a duel master cylinder with a power booster. The start of many questions to come is the transmission crossmember. I have an original 4 speed manual transmission. Do I have to replace the transmission crossmember?

Re: 1959 duel master cylinder with power booster

It will work with the four speed and cross member, just fine plenty of room
for the brake system to fit.:gmc2:

I'm glad you posted this, I am wanting to do the same thing on my 59 with the original 235 and 3 speed transmission. Will it also fit my application as well?

I was wondering which company to use?

Re: 1959 duel master cylinder with power booster

I got mine from Brothers, fit very well, easy install. Plenty of vendors have these units look for direct bolt on.
I think the three speed has a problem with linkage being in the way. Just look and see if you have clearance of about 8 inches from the frame out ,where old master cylinder is mounted. If you have the clearance it will fit.

Re: 1959 duel master cylinder with power booster

If you are tight for room just use updated two chamber master cylinder no booster and add one of these to your system.

Makes old brake systems work great ,take no room to install :gmc2:

Re: 1959 duel master cylinder with power booster

If I install the 2 chamber master cylinder and front disc kit without the vacuum booster will I see a noticeable difference over the stick drum set up? Or even just the front disc kit on the original master cylinder.

Re: 1959 duel master cylinder with power booster

The stock master cylinder has one chamber .If you had a brake line let go no brakes
With the newer master two port if you were to loose a brake you still have other port to stop vehicle . front and rear are separated for this reason .
Trucks and cars had disc brakes without power boosters. Better with booster and equalizer valve.:gmc2:

Re: 1959 duel master cylinder with power booster

if you can mount a power steering pump, or already have power steering, you may also consider a hydroboost system. smaller system, size wise. there are some hydraulic lines to run. check ogre's build for a few pics of how it would look. kim57 also has one in his build. there may be others as well if interested. can use a junkyard booster with a few mods.
make sure to get the master cylinder to match your system, disc front/drum rear or whatever, disc front/disc rear or whatever. the master cylinders for drum brakes may have a residual valve built in and that may screw up the operation if not removed/installed for your set up.

Re: 1959 duel master cylinder with power booster

Do I need residual valves as well and if so would I need them with the balance valve?

and a couple of builds with the hydroboost on 55-59 chevy

Re: 1959 duel master cylinder with power booster

look at orrieg's build, he remote mounted the booster/mc behind the x-member with a rod
as dsraven mentioned hydroboost is very effective at braking, i run one on my 58 truk

Re: 1959 duel master cylinder with power booster

Called cpp yesterday and they said it wouldn't fit with the 4 speed manual because of the clutch linkage. They said the master cylinder alone would fit.

Re: 1959 duel master cylinder with power booster

call Brothers I called ordered and installed the whole unit ,no problems bolted right in. Plenty of room .
If you want I'll get a picture of mine in place :gmc2:

cpp also told me that their setup wouldn't fir in my '49 with an m21. said no room for the shift linkage. bought one just to try it & it fit with plenty of room.

Dual diaphragm boosters have a smaller outside diameter, there seems to be plenty of room
