Well.....here is my newest acquisition.....
I sure don't know what the true definition of patina is....but....
As far as this truck goes....it might have some good patina.
I count at least three, maybe four paint jobs....all of them in some state of "patiner"....
I think this is one of those "calico" patinas....
I think I'll name her "Short-Round".

Hood is short for Neighborhood and is slang here in the US. Usually used to describe lower income areas (along with ghetto and other loving terms) but more recently everybody says hood...so presumably hoodride is your gangsta-mobile :ito:

here's some, being german i would have thought that this aircooled VW term would be familiar to you. A hoodride is typically an aged vehicle that has been slammed, built, and left a little "ratty". This is a term I picked up from my days building old skool bugs, not really common to the C10 scene. I just thought I would try to start a fad by using the term on here....

anybody have some "decent" input on how to accomplish some of these finishes? I have a pretty good idea now but any added input is always a good thing, and there is alot of good experience here on this forum..

Easy...paint it then let it sit out in the weather for 45-50 years:lol:. Sorry i couldn't resist. A "faux patina" paint job is best left to mother nature in my opinion. Hard to beat some of these "O.G." paint jobs, by the way og means original. Nice lookin trucks guys! Joseph

What do you call a fixed up/modded patina truck? There was a small picture of my truck in Classic Trucks and they called it "beater patina". I was thinking more like "street beater" or something like that with a double meaning.

Well that would be all fine and good if you could find trucks up here in Canada that had the Arizona/Texas fade on the paint without the rest of the truck being completely rotten. And I have yet to see a decent looking patina on an 81-87 GM body style truck that was legit. And the fact that I am building a crew cab/short box which was never made factory, so finding an original survivor is pretty unrealistic.

I find the faux/fake patina just like any other custom paint job....you either like it or hate it. Whatever excuse anyone likes to use to go either way really doesn't matter to me. I don't find many flame jobs to get hated on when they first came around either...paint is paint. And in my experience and research over the past, the worn and weathered look of paint is much harder to make a decen job of than a nice paint job. Don't get me wrong, the bad versions are that...just bad. But I have seen some pretty impressive versions of them and they are sweet to look at the work and effort that went into them. There are some that are nearly impossible to tell at a glance.

Myself, I'm tired of the pretty high polished paint jobs. For myself they are a waste of time as I use my vehicles, drive on gravel roads, and haul parts and trailers with them. I've been there done that with full out show trucks/cars....time to move on to something more realistic.

..but then again that is just me. I want to challenge myself to try and pull off a good version of the above. I find haters will be no matter what you want to do with your ride....but then again maybe we should all just make what everyone else wants. That would be fun....lol. Joke.....

Patina is the natural color that happens from oxidation or any other chemical process. Sun, heat, chemical or natural process.

Patina is what the worn/rusted/exposed/weathered exterior is referred to. The natural beauty only mother nature (or some hard sanding) can produce.

I just bought this 63 last night. The paint looks original but I'm not sure since it's missing the white ring around the grill. It was dark when I went to look at it but here's a pic from the ad. Looks like the white ring may have faded & there's a little left on the bottom. Can anyone identify this?
