This gold truck showed up on FB this morning when someone dug the photos out of the archives. The truck has been in a lot of event coverage over the years and is well done even with a bit more fru fru than most like. It has a better job of hanging the Cad bumper on the front than most do but I am not sure about the Olds grill bar for a rear bumper thing.

The color is real close to what my truck was supposed to be when I first built it to go to the Street Rod Nationals in Tulsa in 1973.

Cutting a horizontal "section" out of the center area of the body.

Chopped is obvious, the top is cut off, pieces are cut out of the posts and the top is welded back on with appropriate mods to make it fit.

Sectioned: a horizontal slice is taken out of the body.

Channeled: OR "body dropped" (in mini truck parlance) the floor is cut out around the perimeter and the body is lowered down and the body is welded bck to the floor.

Cracks me up when the next generation so disregards the elder generation's wisdom that they reinvent the same old stuff and give it a new name.

Re: Chopped Trucks

I think the "body drop" title started with the mini truck dudes just as the laying frame nonsense did.

I've lost track of non car guys telling me about this chopped and channeled car that obviously isn't channeled but I have never had one say body dropped. With some of those 70's mini truck that you can see half the frame when you stand back 40 ft I can see why they do it though.

Interesting in that it is basically stock ride height. Parked in front of a body shop, no glass installed. Hmmm...

That black truck looks a tad lower than the stock red one in the second photo. Maybe two inches or a little more.

Re: Chopped Trucks

that black one looks nice and the chop is real subtle. almost missed that. Ride height looks like its stock. may be the tall tires that changes the look.

Looks like the rear of the roof was leaned forward?
