Head Casting Question
First of all would like to say I wish to stick with Original GM parts just for the sake of being here.
Found some heads for sale and of course will have them inspected. Angle plug style, have more than good flow for a near stock or a bit more engine. Like the idea of staying with cast iron, despite detonation issues can crop up. Casting #14011034 supposed to be some good stuff, would anyone have additional insight to these other than what I find on the net? I may change the valve springs and other stuff but the guy has them set up pretty darn good, new bronze guides, guide plates, 7/16 screw in studs, seals, springs, locks and so on. Do they have a dark side? or maybe its just me wanting to burn some serious fuel!:devil: |

Google says those are the phase II Bowtie heads and should be better performance wise than any assembly line head for sure. But they are only as good as the machine work and making sure no cracks.
If they are priced fairly I would consider getting them. But they would have to be in the $500 for me. Because if I am spending $1000 on small block heads I would get an aluminum head. |

If I remember from research from earlier today they are 185 cc Intake runners. Here is the ad. Guy would like to get 1500 for them, he does have some work in them for sure. Complains that he is upside down. Seems like those angle plugs would work with ram horn manifolds, a bonus for me as I have a set.

Good god $1500 for iron bowties? Unless a racing class requires it then hell no.
If you want oem iron heads then the only option worth looking at is vortecs. Everything else is money wasted. /thread. |

He's pretty much got all the "right stuff" in there. Even upgraded to 7/16" rocker studs. But I agree with Tom, for that much cash, unless I'm in racing in some class that required a stock type head, there are way better options out there.
Don't overlook the aftermarket. There are some great heads out there for way under $1,500 bucks. Gary |
