Airbaggers. Where are you putting your tanks?
 

I have a 71 swb stepside with the fuel tank in the rear. Where are you airbaggers putting your airtank. I dont want to put it in the back of the bed, i want it underneath somewhere...

Im thinking of putting it inbetween the cab mounts on the outside of the frame.. Would that fit?? There is 35 inches between the cab mounts. the diameter of the tank is about 10 inches.... Anyone done this before???

basically putting it here, on the outside of the frame rail.. I dont have the cab on so i cant really get an accurate measurement...

I was also thinking of using 2 5gallon tanks but the suicidedoor guy said that it would be best to run 1 8 gallon tank.... Thats a tough spot to find some room for..

Hey lyrikc, I can't answer your question yet because I have not gotten my air tank. But, I would like to thank you for the picture because I have been trying to figure out where to install my mufflers and I believe you have given me my answer. I am running the big 70 series flowmasters, Initially measurement indicate I may be able to install them like you have. If I had the measurements of a five gallon tank I could measure under neath my cab, on the outside of the frame rails, and see if the tank would fit. My cab is currently set in place.

The tanks dimensions are
Specs:
Length - 32"
Diameter - 9.5"
Height with legs - 11.5"

Let me know sir... Let me know the measurements of your muffler i might be able to take a measurement for you.

HA! Don't you remember me asking the same thing? I never did find a good place to mount my 1 gallon tank. I can't imagine mounting something bigger than that. It wouldn't fit anywhere along the frame rails without hanging lower where you would see it. The only spot I could find was behind the rear wheels in the fender area mounted to the frame. But them you have a big tank that you can see in the wheel wells. Good luck to you. I am just going to end up doing a static drop in the rear. I will be putting the air bags on the burb, along with the hidden reciever. I will just use that to tow with. After all, it does have the big block! For now! HAhA

crap.. i dont want you to be able to see the tank. :( guess i can just run it in the bed... iddnt want to though.

I mounted my 2 3 gallon tanks between the two rear most crossmembers..

You have your gastank in the stock location? I have my gas tank back there.. Im sure i will find a place somewhere...

is this a stepside issue? I hadn't really taken any measurements yet but had planned on running a 5 gallon tank on the outside of the framerails under the bed just in front of the rear wheels on my SWB.

Ya... absolutely....

I found a thin 5 gallon tank... I have a mock up of its so im going to see how well it sits on the frame.... Im hoping it works out ok.. that would be nice have 2 5 gallon tanks on the outside fram rails...

another thing to consider is air compressors, how many? what size? if you go with a big tank(s) and only have 1 or 2 small compressors it will kill the performance and the life of the compressors.

just and FYI i had 4 viair 480s with a 12gallon.

i planned on running two viar 400s or 420s whatever the number is, and two 5 gallon tanks. Im going to connect the two tanks.. BUTTT before i do anything im just running the rears first, then adding the fronts later....

So basically a 420ish compressor and a 5 gallon tank.... Then later down the road another 420ish compressor and another 5 gallon tank... Whats your thoughts on that????

i honestly would get the Dual 480 pack from SSD. you will save $$ in the long run. the 400 & 450 are not as efficent as the 480. i believe they also have a 1/4" leader hose vs the 3/8" leader hose on the 480. 480 is a 200psi rated comp, 400/450 are rated 150psi. also IMO the good rule of thumb for comp/tank ratio is 3gal per comp.

Would a 3 gallon tank and one compressor work on a front/rear system? I was going to run that way but after reading this post I'm confused.

I'm not looking for a fast system.

Same here, im not looking to up and down.. Basically down at the show, and up when im done... I wont be doing alot of up and downing in a row... Get me????

My setup would work fine for that right?? 2 seems like overkill. I just want to be able to go down front and rear and up front in rear without having to wait... Just once.... Well, once within 3 or 4 minutes ya know...

I got a 5 gal. "slim" tank and it looks like it will fit outside the PS frame under the cab. I've just mocked it up a few times when I was running through stuff in my head. If not, I'm gonna have to find some stubby ones for outside of the frame behind my wheels. Mine's a fleetside though. If that doesn't happen, the slim tank will be goin in the front of my bed.

Here's my 5 gal. tank. You can't see it when the bed is on.

Ignore the wiring, it's temporary.

Well I can't get my pic to post. Either way it's a 5 gal. tank mounted on the pass. side, outside frame rail, in front of the back wheel. You can't see it when the bed is on the truck. Hope this helps.

i get ya, but what im trying to say is basically a 3gallon tank wont do it for ya. raise the front or rear 1 time by itself and your out of air.... thats all im saying so choose the right comp/tank setup wisely. too much tank and not enough compressor and you will kill that comp, it will run longer and drain your battery faster than a multiple comp setup.

Im running 10 gallons and two compressors... 5 gallons and 1 comp should be fine for the rear right????

yeah should be fine, which comp you gonna run? i havent checked out the 420 yet to see what the cfm rate is :lol:
