Worked on the interior today. Went ahead and pulled the seat (I have a USA1 oe style seat cover going back on it), the cracked up dash, and carpet out. Then did some spring cleaning on all the normally covered up bits. Also pulled the whipped stock speakers and the jankey single din radio out (it didn’t work anyway) and ordered a new Pioneer headunit (with Bluetooth) and speakers, so I can have some sounds. I’m super pleased with how clean everything is looking in all the nook and crannies...no rust at all!

Here’s a few before pictures...won’t get any afters until after the stereo stuff arrives though.

And, just to prove I’ve made some headway...

USA1 Industries has very nice seat covers. One of their older guys, that makes covers for the, he makes my covers for my seat restorations.

That’s good to know! Wish I had an in on a cover, but it’s all good. I’m not very hip on putting seat covers on, but I watched a few videos and it looks pretty straight forward. I’m going to work on getting it covered and cleaning all the plastic panels up while I wait on the dash speakers. I had one broken spring under the seat, but ‘modified’ it to put back into duty.

All your springs should be snug. If they aren’t, and they are floppy, then the grid needs tightened up.
Check your foam too. On the bottom, on each end, usually it needs glued back together. The foam splits apart. A foam spray glue will adhere the foam back together.

^^^ I’ll give it a closer look tomorrow. Thanks for the insight.

Are you doing the dash also?

Yes I am. If you look back at post #22, you’ll see I got a new dashboard from Cheyenne Truck Parts...it’s a nice piece. As soon as I get the new dash speakers, I’ll put the dash in.

Hey TKCR, I did have a chance to have a closer look at my seat foam and it seams (pun intended) to be in good working order. It just had the one spring in the middle of the d/s seating area. After fixing that, the seat “sits” really well...the little bit of sag is gone.

I didn’t have any extra time to work on the truck today as I had a buddy ask me to assemble a 351W, as he’s in a time crunch, so I spent all day doing that. I’m going to take it to another buddy who has an engine dyno tomorrow after work to get some #’s for him. Should be in the low to mid 400’s.

Turns out the seat cover had a small tear, so I’m now waiting on a replacement. They were fantastic about it. I also went ahead and ordered new carpet and lower door panel pieces. That’ll finalize the interior.

They are having to send me a replacement too. Just got an order delivered Saturday. One of the covers had this. Looks like an iron burn.

Well it was good your parts arrived. But that sucks, stabbing yourself. I hope you didn’t bleed on your new parts, that really would have been BAD!

Got home this evening and had a little bit of time to tinker. I got the front dash speakers mounted and did a quick test fit of the new dash. I gotta say, Cheyenne gets an A+ for fitment!!! It looks like it came in there! Now, I haven’t finalized the install of it because I want to do some additional cleaning up under the dash and some areas are more accessible from up top, so these pictures are of it just sitting in place. No weird bows, sticking out areas or misaligned areas even this way.

After pulling the dash one more time for some additional access behind the dash for radio wiring it’s now back in for good. I also got the new ACC carpet installed and it looks fantastic. I’ll get the rest of the interior panels in this morning and then I’m just waiting on the seat cover. But I really want to replace that stock steering wheel...may have to add it to the list.

I got a steering wheel ordered this morning after getting the yard work done (before it gets any hotter out).

Carter..trucks looking real good..nice interior parts...I recovered my seat...it was alot easier than I expected..your.(beatup) dash looked 100times better than mine did...which is odd..my truck lived nearly its whole life indoors...I cheaped out and used a coverlay dash cover on mine..

Thanks Greg! The original dash pad was pretty hammered in real life between the cracks and the waves. That’s why I just bought this full replacement. Cheyenne had a great reputation and I see why after seeing this piece. The ACC carpet fit like a champ too. I’m going to finish cleaning the interior panels, pull the door panels to clean them & install the new door carpet panels. Then I’ll be waiting on the seat cover...

I can’t say anything bad about the dash. I tried one of the OER urethane (or whatever they are) ones on another truck and just wasn’t ever pleased with it.

TKCR 05-26-2019 10:39 AM

Re: 1987 R10...aka Belushi

Those urethane dashes will warp. There are only 2 places that I know that have metal frame dashes, Cheyenne & USA1 Industries. I have heard good things about both dashes.
I saw a guys URETHANE dash that was less than a year old. It looked like sh!t, it was warped/wavy. It was nasty looking
