layed out / fuel tank re-location

Question for the guys laying frame, What are yall using for gas tanks?
Im leaning toward the Blazer tank in the back, but it looks like it might hit the ground ?? any ideas? I really dont wanna put a cell in the bed.
Ive done some searching but didnt find exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks!
-Bobby

Re: layed out / fuel tank re-location

I know what you mean they do seem to sit low.

I had a buddy put one in his 4x4 stepside show truck not sure what it's from but he fills it from behind the plate and it fits in the frame raisl nicely, I don't think it hangs down either but not sure. I also think his is right over the rear end, which would NOT work for a lowered truck.

I agree though, would hate to put a fuel cell in the bed.

fuel cell under bed???

im sure if you go to the local PnP n look you will find something that works. But hopefully someone will chime in. I had a slammed blazer back in the day, and i beat that tank to hell daily driving it, so im kinda curious too.

here's my buddies truck, looks like if it were moved back it may work on a lowered truck, not sure. maybe some more mods? I don't even know how he mounted it or what it's from, I forget.

Does any one know who the guy is that owns "drag nasty" ? hes got his tank under the bed also. I saw his 82 on sporttruck.com and on here. love that truck.. :metal: i think he raised the floor on his bed though.

benoit454- gotta wait til i get off work to look at the picture but thanks!

Outlaw87- i like that tank, pricey, but nice. thanks for the link. i been looking at fuel cells on summit, but the stock blazer tanks are cheaper. i see people getting it done, real nice too. just no one with em on the ground.

knightowl73- hopefully we can get someone to answer this question.
im stuck in the desert right now and im itchin to start on my truck!

You can contact FUELCELLGUY. He is a vendor of the board (vendor marketplace). He is doing a group buy for 67-72 trucks now but he can fan anything.

I think that alum. one would be too thick, even thicker then a blazer tank I'd bet.

Re: layed out / fuel tank re-location

What about doing a blazer tank, but adding a "hump" to the bed so you can raise it up higher?

I remember reading somewhere about a guy who put a tank between the frame rails in front of the rear axle. He did the same idea of raising the floor. I never saw the finished product though.

At one point someone on ebay was selling fuel tanks meant to go in the bed that follow the wheel wells. Thought those were cool, but haven't seen them in a while.

If it were me, I would look in the Vendor Forum and see about having a aluminum tank made by one of our great forum sponsors.
heres one

Re: layed out / fuel tank re-location

looks like that one may hang to low. maybe they can make a shallow one for me.

Altec- he put it in front of the axle?? that sounds like a bad idea..
Im trying to not cut up the bed so much. im already putting a big notch in it.
think im probably just gonna go with the blazer tank in the end... just cut it and weld it back up.. we'll see.

good info thanks gents. more more!!

Re: layed out / fuel tank re-location

Take a look in the Vendor Marketplace. There are a couple of vendors that will build a tank to your specs.
