I’m curious why not 67-68 as well or are you wanting a blazer/jimmy frame not truck.

A 68 would work …the reason I didn’t include 67 is that the frame is different where the steering gear bolts on. Of course it can be modified but I was looking to avoid that. Also I have a really good 71 Blazer frame but it’s shorter than the truck frame. Again that could be modified as well but not really wanting to do that either.
Basically just looking for the easiest and quickest way to build a SWB 4x4 without a great deal of fab work. I can do it, but just don’t really want to.
If I can’t find a good frame, I will just have to modify my 2wd frame.
This project is a ways out yet but i’m looking for stuff i will need

Thanks for the offer…by all means put me next on the list.
It will be next year before i start the project…If I don’t find one, i’ll just use the parts off the Blazer frame and 4 link the rear..a trailing arm set up with coilovers might work as well

You won't want a 68 frame either if you're not interested in modifying the frame. Currently I'm working on a 68 K10 and have to modify the frame for power steering by means of CaptainFABs bracket. Just thought you might like to know!

Good to know...
I had thought the PS gear mounting surface changed for the '68 MY....did it have the hydraulic ram assembly like the '67 did ?

No, not on the K frames, no frame mounted power steering gear until 69 on the 4wd's. Imho, your WTB "69-72 4x4 frame" thread is correctly titled and what we would also be chasing for the p/s and upgraded forward spring hanger (also a 69 K frame design change) reasons. Good luck on the hunt! Mel :chevy:

67 4x4 frame also has one year only 3" rear springs.

I've had a few 72 swb 4x4s and each of them had a reinforcement bracket on the inside of the frame for the steering box. They also had a bracket on the driver's side front spring hanger, and an L-bracket on the frame behind the spring to retain the spring in place if the spring should brake. Another difference is the 72s have different / taller rear forward spring brackets. Some of these changes may have started in 71.

A lot of good information...
Looking at the production numbers reveals that there just weren't a great deal of 4WD SWB models produced.
Model years '71 & '72 saw the highest production numbers and, by observation, they populate the list for availability.
The search continues.......

Would you be interested in a cut down lwb frame? Not mine, but I know where one could be bought.

The 3" rear springs were used on the '68 K trucks as well. The other oddity about those rear springs is that they start at 3" on both ends but slim down to 2.5" in the middle. NOT any easy solution to replace!

Why can’t you just use a 2wd short bed frame

Not a big deal to overcome. I believe when replacement springs are ordered for these the 2.5" leaf is used with wider bushings at the ends.

71-72 4x4 frames also have an extra reinforcement bracket on the rear spring hangers that are riveted to the underside of the frame rails. 69-70 spring hangers only riveted to the side of the rails. i used 72 blazer rear hangers on my 69 suburban for the extra support. i also installed the steering box inner support bracket from the blazer.

My 1970 Blazer has the inner reinforcement bracket for the steering box. The taller rear forward spring brackets began in 1971.
