My Blue 68 mutt K10
Hi guys! I thought I might start a build thread, even though for me it is going to be a long slow process. I currently also have a 1999 chevy silverado 1500 2wd that I believe to have a leaky head gasket so this 68's gonna be my DD. I will post pictures soon once I figure out how  but I havent done much to it so far, I bought it for $850 in running condition. It looks to have been restored before? maybe. it has a 67 front end with a 68 box/frame/drivetrain -the engine, thats a 73 350. so far what i have done is rebuilt both front lockouts, and the front brakes, no pics sorry :waah: but this weekend I will tackle the rear brakes and and draining the trans which is the 4speed manual also i will be draining the t-case and both diffs and getting fresh oil in all of the above. these i will get pictures for ;) but thanks for your time, since i am a high school student with a very busy schedule i will try to update this thread as much as possible!

Welcome fellow Minnesotan! It sounds like you got a good deal on your truck, I am looking forward to seeing pictures of it.

Why hello fellow Minnesotan from the north! Thanks, it may not be "pretty" or "rust-free" but it is an awesome truck that I will have many good times in! I will be trying to upload a few pictures now, but just a warning they aren't the best pics.

I will add more but it will take some time, I have to resize all these pictures. otherwise I could easily post them to imgur and just put links, if that would work for people on here. |

Welcome to the forum.
Looks like you have a nice straight truck there. |

Nice score! It looks pretty clean especially if its originally from Minnesota. Is the chassis as clean as the body?

Re: My Blue 68 mutt K10
I'm not sure if it's originally from around here, but the VIN says it was assembled in mi so I would at least assume the area. And the frame is pretty good too, which also leads me to believe it has already been restored

Well I get paid tomorrow, so I get to replace the rear brakes, change all the gear oil, and hopefully start fabbing up some traction bars. It will make for a fun weekend!

Re: My Blue 68 mutt K10
well, i replaced the gear oil in both the transmission and transfer case. It didn't get rid of the whine from the transfer case, sadly, but at least i know it has fresh oil in it now. Tomorrow after work i will pull the differential cover off the front axle and check things out in there, and of course change the oil. sadly I had o'reilly order the wrong gasket for the rear diff so I wont be able to check that out for a little while at least. I also sprayed some degreaser on alot of the underside stuff, since the seals are obviously a little worn for being only 45 years old, and I cant afford them to be rebuilt. Tomorrow I will also have some more pics for you guys too.

Um, your '68 has a '67 rear window.

and In The Ten Ring, i figured as much, but thanks for pointing it out in case i just was to naive to notice. but I have done all the research i could on this truck so far, and it appears to be a 68 frame/suspension/drivetrain/bed minus the engine, 67 cab and front end (no idea how to tell if the grille is from the 68 or 67 but i would assume the 67 since the rest of the front end is 67)and same with the hood. also if anyone might be able to tell me what rear end i have that would be great, I thought it was the ten bolt but orielly had a different gasket for the ten. i cant remember if it had 10 or 12 from when i crawled underneath but it is an oval shape so not too sure on that. okay then not to get TOO overwinded here but does anyone know if these are original rims for the 68? I saw a mid 80's chevy at orielly today that had the same rims and hubcaps but they also could have been used for a decade too not sure on that either. |
