Stripped the interior and firewall today on the Burb and finally got rid of the old carpet that was stinking up the interior. I’m going to clean up the dirty firewall and see if I can get away with not painting it right now!

Re: The Family Truckster- 66 Suburban Build
I'd vote for paint. Exterior, frame, suspension all look great. Bet the engine will too. Firewall may look out of place with everything else shiny. But then I paint the insides of the doors and do other OCD things. ;)

Re: The Family Truckster- 66 Suburban Build
I agree, paint the firewall on the cowl area to better match with the exterior. The outside paint looks good in the pictures, just go ahead and paint it while you have it all apart. You might regret it later if you don't.

Been a while since I posted an update, life has been busy  I did manage to get my power steering conversion done. Used a Captain Fab steering box bracket and installed new Moog tie rods, idler and pitman arms! Also used some Pro Performance tie rod sleeves!
I also managed to cut the floor for the high hump but haven’t had the time to install it yet! My transmission is done being rebuilt as well, just have to pick it up and then clean up and paint it when I have the time. |
Re: The Family Truckster- 66 Suburban Build
Keep it up. You'll be done before you know it. Looks good so far.

Nice work - I am hitting snags on my brakes but slowly moving along.

Well the Burb got put on the back burner for the summer, my wife works weekends in the summer so my focus switched to watching my 14 month old son, which I wouldn’t trade that bonding time with him for anything! But it did mean that the Burb spent the summer collecting dust  Now that the summer is over, it’s time to dust off the old girl and get some work done! I finally swapped the tires over from the 1 piece TT II’s to the 2 piece custom backspaced 20x10 TT II’s. I had to do a couple rounds of trimming on the outer fender lip to fit the wheels and the meaty 295/40/20’s under there but it was worth it! I’ll have the 2 20x10 1 piece wheels up for sale in the for sale area if anybody wants them.

Glad to see you back on it, but totally understand the "distraction".
That tire and wheel looks killer back there. :metal: |

I managed to get a few things done on the Burb over the last couple of weekends. Getting ready to hopefully put the drivetrain in soon! I got the high hump installed, the transmission cleaned up and painted and also painted the firewall. Decided just to do a semi gloss black on the firewall. I like the way it came out, body color would have been nice but I just don’t have the time or space for that. Maybe one day if/when I get the truck repainted! Still have to fill the shifter holes in the high hump as well.

Detailing looks great, Keith. Glad to see you decided to tidy up the firewall. With all the other suspension/frame details, it would have looked out of place without some TLC. I''ll bet you're past ready to drop the LS in there. ;)

Motor & Trans are in and I’m excited. Love the way it looks and went in without any hiccups. Ran out of time last night before I could set the angle of the motor and bolt the trans crossmember down. It’s just sitting in the frame rails right now holding the trans up. Also have to bolt the converter to the flex plate along with about a million other things still left to do
