MA Safety Inspection
any lifted owners out there having trouble with the MA safety inspection this year? After 4 years with no questions about my 6" lift i am being told i have to go down to 3" above oem stock suspension. let me know if anyone else is getting push back. thx.

Re: MA Safety Inspection
Are they saying headlight height, or suspension lift problem

Re: MA Safety Inspection
In MA there are cameras in the inspection bays and they don't want to risk big fines or losing the inspection business. Have you tried more than 1 place?

Re: MA Safety Inspection
this recent garage did mention the cameras. but that's a bit silly since there are over 2,000 garages in the state. does the state have eyes on all these garages every day? this garage was my last holdout over the years.
i'm thinking i register the truck at a family member in another state? can this garage really mandate my highest lift is 3" over stock? i see insane lifts on Wranglers every day here on the south shore. |
Re: MA Safety Inspection
they did not mention headlight height to me. they said some weired formula based on original suspension. but that was all they said. 4 years ago they said something like 30" from driver door bottom to level ground. which i did fail that metric 4 years ago. i think i was 32" back then. anyone know the state citation where these metrics are defined?

Re: MA Safety Inspection
Ah yes. I remember this from my days in Cambridge. There was a formula at that time and I believe tires had to be within specified distance from fenders. On a cursory check I found this: https://malegislature.gov/Laws/Gener...er90/Section7P
For being the seat of the American Revolution MA has really gone soft over the years. Edit: see here (not sure if current): https://www.mass.gov/files/documents...19/540cmr6.pdf |
Re: MA Safety Inspection
thx deadhead for that info. i decided to pick up the blazer from the garage and i'll have to keep the Reject sticker on it until i make a plan. i think it'll be in the garage for a few weeks while i sort it out.
if i can get a 3" to 4" final suspension lift with 33" tires to pass then i'll try that. i spoke to a few performance shops and they say the rule will be repealed and they can get it close w/o going to bone stock. i'll post my final decision in a few weeks. |
Re: MA Safety Inspection
You bet. Bummer of a hassle. Good luck. You might still be cutting it close though.

Re: MA Safety Inspection
it goes w/o saying i would never thwart or break the law. but RI is a short 60 miles away so i suppose a degenerate could register it there under his brother in-laws name. just sayin' it can be done not saying i would do it. theoretically speaking.
