Thanks. The seat is out of a 2004 2500 Dodge. The seat belts are new and from Wesco performance. I got the ones for bucket seats (11") and the GM labels on the latches. I am pretty satisfied with them. Make sure you get the hardware kit. I did not and I had to order these when I finally got around to installing them.

I like the idea of side marker fill if you are wanting it hidden.

Thanks. I think I might go behind the tail light because it will give the most room for a fuel nozzle.

I'm with ya there. Only burn outs it'll be doing is on some different tires. Haha

The only problem with a motor cycle fill is you'd never get a large truck stop fuel nozzle in it. And that's a bad deal if that is the only nozzle around with diesel in it.

Re: 1972 Chevy 4wd Longhorn Project: Never Ending Changes

Dieselwrencher I have a Boyd welding 19 gallon cell and used a 88-98 Chevy door in my bed floor. My truck being a short bed any work I do with it I will most likely have a trailer behind me, but I also was concerned about the day I have a full pickup load and need fuel. Here's some pics, the door landed where the bed support is so that had to be notched.

Rgreathouse, that turned out nice!

I got some different front emblems from Shortie. They look closer to the originals compared to the ones I have on it now.

Thanks. Member Shortie is making them. I also asked if he would be interested in doing the Cheyenne 30, 20, and Super badges. He said he might if there is enough interest.

Hello Mick, how are you? Yes sir. Hopefully it can do some work before June. I saw you have your truck for sale on CL. Were you able to keep your firebird?

Yes they are. I'd like to see if he can make some for my 76 that mimic stock Cheyenne with a Cummins C instead just a C.

PM him and I bet he'll design one after he gets all the others made up. I'd like to have him make some for the grill for the 76 too. I'd also like to get an Excursion name plate with the Cummins C instead of just a capitol C.

Thanks Mike. I have another cool bling part on the way that another member turned me on to. I can't believe I haven't seen anyone on here talking about them yet. You'll just have to wait to see what they are.

I did buy some shock mounts for the D60, adjustable bump stops for the rear suspension, and the secret shiny things too. Still no word on my converter. I bet the builder is at TS getting ready to race. I'd really like to get the trans back in this thing before June. I forgot to show a pic with the 35s on it. I stole them off the 76 since it's just setting around any way.

I'll probably put them on again. We'll have to see. I really like this look too. Yeah, it never seems to stop. There's always something else. :mm: this week I also ordered some wheel spacers for the front, and an AFC live stage 2 for fuel control.

oh yeah, keeping the Firebird. just needed to downsize total number of vehicles, and get something more suitable for family towing requirements. Got something different already, but can't mention it here :)

It must be a Ford. It's ok. These guys just don't know what a real truck is. :mm: I miss my 95 F350 every day. :( And I really miss my old 05 F350. Even for a 6.0, it was a sweet truck.

Yesterday my converter shipped! Now to get this pig put back together. The goal is to drive it in July. I'd like to actually drive it in June but we'll see.

Thanks Mike. Yeah, I'm trying. I got the trans back in but I tore the front end apart to do the king pins and u joints. The king pins really didn't need anything other than new seals. But, I will know they are good for a good while longer now. I just need to find a good amount of time to stay working on it. Haha

I can't agree with that.... If I had to pick one favorite 67-72 excluded, it is gmt400. Despite all the rotten press ifs got in the beginning, I've never had durability issues and loved all of my ifs trucks. And they look sweet.

Re: 1972 Chevy 4wd Longhorn Project: Never Ending Changes

They feel cheap and went further away from being a truck and closer to being a grocery getter. I don't mind a few options on a truck but its a truck. My 08 Dodge has a rubber floor mat in it. I am also not a big fan of LS motors in a truck for working but they do make good hot rods. The front ends also don't take well to the abuse of a juiced diesel. Look at all the broken fronts in the sled pulling world. Last gripe would be way to many electronics and computers to do something simple.

The 88-99 old body, I've worked on way too many that had too many early failures. IMO the bodies were built really crappy. I was not a fan of the IFS front suspension. The new body style 99 up are better aesthetically looking, but I just never really cared much for them. The frames are stronger than the previous but again the IFS ruins it for me. Don't get me wrong, they are good trucks, I just would rather have a super duty, or an OBS ford before a 99 up Chevy. I got bitten by the ford bug in the late 90's and haven't really went back until I had a dodge for a while. Now I just build what I want but that takes years. Hence why this truck is still apart.

Around here they were rotting out before they were 4yrs old. My hatred for them more than likely came from working on them a lot. That's all we did for 2 summers were front end bushings, ball joints, CV shafts, leaf springs, cab corners, rockers, bed sides, front fenders, floors, and doors and door hinges. The Kodiaks were the worst for that. I've never owned one so I could be biased. :uhmk:

Re: 1972 Chevy 4wd Longhorn Project: Never Ending Changes

IFS isn't my first pick, but it ins't horrible. 1500-2500 series trucks are fine with IFS IMO. I do wish that the 3500s or at least the 3500 duallys that GM builds had solid front axles.

I'll try to get this back on track. It sort of turned into a brand debate. :mm:

I have been working on getting stuff scratched off the list but the truck just doesn't want to cooperate. I got the trans and converter back in the truck. I need to modify my shift linkage lever, and get the tcase back on it. I decided to finally check my king pins in this front axle since I never did yet. Turns out they were fine but I'm installing new bearings, seals, springs and wear cups anyway. The axle u-joints were shot so I replaced them. I also replaced the wheel mounting studs because dodge ones are 1/2" and GM ones are 9/16". The knurl size is the same between both so I was able to use GM ones. I took the lock outs apart, cleaned and regreased them. I painted the knobs a blue because stock 4wd's had blue knobs. I may get a lighter blue and try that. These are a bit dark. I did get the radio wired and tested. I installed the new center speaker and that was a crap deal. My big head aches are from the turn signals. They are being a pita. Hopefully I can get that sorted out. I'm adding body grounds and I think I'll replace the turn signal switch and see if they want to work then. The wipers work though, that's a plus! Haha
