GMC truck with Chevy trim

73-87:

I have a GMC truck.

When I bought it, the truck didn't have a tailgate, so I bought one from a seller on craigslist.

It was a Chevy tailgate, but I needed one and didn't have time to wait until a GMC was available.

My basic question is, from your experiences, does it matter to a potential buyer that the VIN is GMC but the trim is Chevy?

I am about to replace things like the grille, headlamp bezels, etc.

I want to keep it consistent, and I don't mind getting the Chevy trim, since I already have the tailgate.

Tailgates are expensive and GMC tailgates are hard to find used.

My inclination is to just go with the Chevy trim and not worry about it.

:)

Thanks in advance.

It depends on how nice the truck, for a original, some rust/faded paint truck - I don't think anyone will care.

If you are trying to sell it as a "nicer" truck, then someone will care more. If the tailgate has the band that covers up the "GMC/Chevy" then it won't even be visible. If its the basic tailgate with the words exposed, then it will stand out.

In my opinion, if your selling it as a nicer truck, asking more money for it then you may want to update it, but if its got some other things that will need fixing, probably not going to impact your price much.

You can get a new tailgate without logo for under $200
https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Tailgat...03ae5724198b31

You can get a used gmc tailgate for half that. Selling your tailgate you have now can get you under $50 out of pocket if you go used, Just over $100 if you go with a new one.

Car-part.com has you covered

And yes it would bother me if someone took the time to convert their GMC to Chevrolet

If you sell it as a pickup truck, the buyer probably won't care. If you plan on selling it as a pretty vehicle properly restored, then it could well matter to a potential buyer.

By now, almost every square pickup is a mix of OEM, aftermarket new, and salvage used parts.

The rare few that claim to be all original are in this price range: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=797985

I bought an 84 GMC C2500 a little over a month ago, and the tailgate that came with it(laying in the bed) is a Chevrolet. Until I can get a GMC one, it will do. It was the silver/gray color with the pinstriping, but has a large dent at the bottom. I cleaned and painted it silver, 2 weeks ago, the painted it white to go with the truck. My best friend is sending me a new hinge for the body, so when I get that, I can put it on.

Wow look at the truck in that link!

Mine will be nowhere near that nice, so I may just go with Chevy trim.

The bucket seats and console are from a Suburban.

Heck, back around 1975 or so when I worked at a dealer, we got a brand new pickup in off the transport that had Chevy emblem on one front fender and GMC emblem on the other
