Maggie's Custom

Maggie and I are new to to board and this is her first project!! We found a 66 Custom SWB, large window on craigslist and picked it up a few weeks ago. She wanted a orignal paint truck, and it had to be Blue with plenty patina!! The truck has minor rust and the guy I got it from swapped in a 305 and didn't get much further than that. The truck is perfect for our plans. I'm going to try to keep the cost low and get it back on the road asap. The plans are to bag the truck, new brakes, and put a TH350 in it. After looking at a 100 or more builds my inspiration for bagging the truck comes from coulter here on the board! Any tips, comments, or advise along the way would be much appreciated!

Looks like a killer truck to start with and coulter's truck is a good example to follow. It should be an awesome project.

Picked up the truck in Mt. Ida, we made a weeked trip out of it, stopped on the way back and watched some dirt tracking too! It's a little to late for "get it together and drive it"! I'm a little further than the pics I've posted, like two frame rails and a cab! I put a battey in it, hooked up a jumper wire, poured some gas in the float bowl and it fired right up, than pulled the motor. Still learning how to post pictures, I'll get some more up tomorrow.
Thanks for all the kind welcomes!! I'll have her jump on here soon and introduce herself too.
Thanks again
Jason

Here we were getting ready to pull the bed and rear mounted engine!

With the help of a engine hoist, jack, and Maggie, we were able to put the bed up for safe storage.

On side of the house! I'm sure the neighbor loves it!

Getting ready to pull the hood.

In the grage getting ready to come apart.

I gave the wheels away (that were new and never got to see the road) to a friend who was working on a 65 Chevy step side for a kid who was getting a truck for his 16th birthday (last Thursday) that belonged to his grandfather who had bought it new! My buddy installed Vintage Air AC, CPP disc brakes, power master, and power steering, the wheels with new tire, and what did the kid like the most? the wheels!! I'll post a picture when i get it. They could have not ended up in a better place.
Thanks again
Jason

Wow what a HOTTIE !!
(and your girlfriend is cute too)

LOL

I would say I would build a truck for a girl too, but I just spent $10k on a professional restoration on this for my wife:

Attachment 948110

This is her 1972 LeMans Sport with the Endura Package.
Only thing keeping it from being a GTO really is the emblems, and the little known fact that there was no such thing as a factory '72 convertible GTO....
Attachment 948111

We have not seen it yet, these photos are before pics of the car. We take delivery of it this August when we go home on leave.

Bottom line, awesome what a good woman will inspire a man to do.... :smoke:

Still learning how to post pics, I know its easy, how sad.
I do have a question in the mean time, can I run a TH350 trans with the stock (low) trans tunnel? And did the 66 hub caps come in chrome?
I'll get more tear down pics up tomorrow as well as of my truck.

Glad to see that Maggie is wearing her steel toe flip flops, safety first!!!

If I was one of your neighbors, you might want to keep a close eye on the bed and the front clip!!

Re: Maggie's Custom

Looks like you two are going to have a lot of fun on this.
Good to see she is wrenching on it too!!

When my wife got her LeMans, I told her she would have to wrench on it.
She said "But that is what I have you for..."
My reply to her was, "I could do that. But you would know nothing about your car, and when people stop to talk to you about it, they will realize you know nothing about it. Then they will know it is really MY car, and I just let you drive it."

Now she only asks me for help on it.

Funny thing too, mechanics dont like to talk to her now either because they cannot pull the wool over her eyes. (Local Chevy dealership tried to tell her part of her transmission problem was a dead battery and it would be $200 for them to change the battery. Yep, no lie... $80 for the battery and $120 for an hour of labor)
She told them exactly why they should go frook themselves.

Funny thing is my son (19) watches me work on his stuff! She pushes me out of the way so she can try! Something you can't teach people. She is having a blast working on this truck, all the more for me to get in on the ground asap. I have c notches, bags, track bar, 2 steel wheels, cpp front brake and ball joint kit, rear 5 lug conversion axles, master w/ booster and a few other things on the way, hoping to have it on the ground soon.

Going to post the rest of my pics, I'm at a stopping point until I get parts so I'm taking the weekend off. We got the truck on fathers day so we've done pretty good so far. I'm not a welder or fabricator so go easy on me! It helped a lot looking and coulter's build in knowing which direction to go first. We are not sandblasting and painting parts this go around, get it back on the road, drive it, than break it back down, fix the rust, do a little paint.
