Debating... 67 gmc custom

5 Attachment(s)
I have had some interest in this and wondering if I should offer it up. My main goal was to save it and get it on the road again. (which I did) Maybe someone else wants to go to the next level with it?
305 V-6 4 speed. Runs good drives good. Just put 25 miles on it last week. Its an original truck so it does need some tinkering. Brakes work ok, but could be better, exhaust sound ok, but could be better. That kind of stuff. Always gets compliments.

I have an idea on a value, but thought I would see what your thoughts are.
Thanks.

Does have power brakes and power steering. Steering has a leak. Also has a 6 cyl tach dash in it. Inside of the box is very nice. Pretty clean for this part of the country.

Don't need to sell, don't even really want to sell, but for the right money, who knows?

Eric, I’ve never seen you sell a truck why start now LOL. Seriously though I know how It can be when you get too many projects. That is a cool truck and would be a nice project or driver for someone.

Re: Debating... 67 gmc custom

You did the right thing Eric, you saved it from being purchased by the wrong person ( non enthusiast : buys old truck for work uses only, no attachment, sends to the wrecking yard or crusher after needs a repair ). That being said, the right person is someone on this site or in the auto hobby who wants to preserve or restore a rare piece of history ( '67 GMC model year = lowest factory production numbers for all '67-72 GM pickups )

Spend a weekend doing a CLR scrub and really good polish/wax. Maybe clean and sort of detail the engine. A weekends worth of work would probably add a grand or two to the price the way people love the "Patina" thing.

Course what do I know, I hang on to stuff forever and end up losing money on everything I finally do sell ... HaHa!

I honestly don't know what it's worth, but I really like the GMC V6. It's not something that everyone is going to want - most want to swap an LS - but there are those of us who appreciate it for what it is.

Ray, I don't sell them often, but between storing, insurance, batteries etc... it adds up to time and money. I have one in the body shop now, another getting a new engine, a couple of drivers and I haven't even looked at the jimmy camper yet... I really like this truck but I have 2 other 2wd longbeds to pick from.

Factorystock, The main thing I was after was to save it. It took about 5 years to get this truck from its owner, sitting under a big pine tree and not moving in who knows how long.

Mark, I have spent hours getting pine pitch and other contaminants off of the already thin paint. It has been waxed and garage stored since. I agree about a detail on the engine.

truckster, I agree that the V-6 may hurt it for some but I think the right purist may really like it.

All said, is it in the $6,000 range you think?
Don't worry, you won't hurt my feelings with any opinions... and if you do, I do a lot of roadtrips and can find you...

Prices tend to vary widely depending on local market conditions. You might get that for it around here, but I suspect you would have to wait for the right buyer.

I have the silver '68 CST that is pretty much comparable in condition to yours but I haven't cleaned it up yet. I have been telling people that ask $5500 on it. I think most of the people that have asked are just curious instead of actually looking for a truck. I don't think you are too far off on that. I am in the same boat as you on selling it. I have been driving it and not really keen on selling it.

Ok Eric, now that you went there I will back that up. I was thinking $5,000-$6,000 range. I really am no good at pricing any more. But going by all I see...

The trucks value is in what it was new and that it is still that truck. For a local sale the body is in great condition. Good enough to drive or tear into it and have a great example. The V6 is cool and can attract as many as those who want to rip it out to follow the LS trend. It's not like you are basing the money on that anyway. If a buyer likes it and wants it, it's free with the truck

Leon, thanks for confirming. I like your truck, looks like a good driver.

Tim, thanks to you also for confirming I may be in the game with pricing. In my head I was thinking around $5500, but its always easier to go down than up. Oh the decisions... If it was a plain jane run of the mill truck it wouldn't be a tough decision, but go and try to find a 67 that hasn't been molested and isn't in bad shape.

TMS,
It will depend on the market you advertise this in, as mentioned by others.
I buy parts here, and sometimes think the price is a little high,BUT what does $30 or $50 dollars buy these days...? Not a lot...
$5500 was about what I was thinking when you first posted this thread. I've learned about buying and selling etiquette. I'd ask $6500.00 to start. There's folks around with THAT much $$$ cash. THe V6 may throw some off, but I'd test the waters first with your number. You NEVER know if some one, single person has been looking for such a pickup as what you have!!!

Back in the 80's a customer/friend came in the parts tore I worked at. he was always buying parts for this old Chevy LUV pickup he had. He got sick of working on it. Put a sign on it, $1600.00, take it or leave it. THAT day, a guy knocks on this door, with 16 $100.00 bills in his hand, no questions, no tire kicking, HE just wanted it!!! Oh crap, $1600.00 was a bunch of $$$ back then!!!
The new buyer bought parts from me, also, for it, except it got a 350 SBB installed in it!!! THe new buyer had just inherited some $$$ and always wanted to build a V8 Chevy :UV....(I thought they wewre pretty cool...not enough to build one, though...)

That's the thing about mine. Pretty much all original, 327/TH400, CST w/buckets, PS, and PB. That makes them worth a little more in my book.....

Looks like a nice truck. Not many 67 custom GMC's. I agree with what others have said, $5-6k is a good range.

Not an exact comparison but I sold this one in that price range in January. It was a sport trim bucket seat truck but not near as original as yours and it needed some brakes, steering and other stuff to get it back on the road. Was a yard driver.

if you sold it would have to update your avatar? around here in Cali it is about a $4000 dollar runner in your area:gmc2: $5 or $6k maybe because most of them rusted away, I'm guessing at best. They rust here also but not the cancerous style. I just bought this shortwide 4x4 that's a 71 and has a low production number. I'm in it around $6k! needs rockers. Showing it as an example of cost comparisons . as a side note I feel lucky to have found this short bed 4x4, they a few and far between. :chevy:

I appreciate all of the feedback. I am still on the fence if I want to try to sell or not. It is paid for afterall………
A1, I could change my avatar to something very similar and most wouldn't even know. That's a decent shorty you picked up.

Well the right money happened along and i didn't have it advertised at the moment. (stored inside for the winter) Mixed emotions, but i think it went to a good home. Time to change the avatar...

There you go. I hate selling a truck. Mostly because I'd rather keep them . No matter what the reason for selling it's a roller coaster ride for me. I took a long time to sell my '71 Wrecker. It would've been better if someone bought it right away. The more I looked at it the more I wanted to keep it. I'd list it a while, get interest but no one actually coming to check it out. I'd take the listing down and play with it a little more and like it a little more. It seemed I appreciated it more than anyone. The decision was more about improving my too much stuff (<) issues than the truck itself. But it would be one with the least use I owned. Finally I put it up for sale again and a guy came to buy it. No more roller coaster ride and that felt good......... Except I no longer own that truck!!

well thats good that somebody showed up with the right money, Randy 500 showed up here and took the short wide 4x4 so that gave me money to move forward with my Blazer.

Tim and A1, now the big decision, try to replace it? or pull out one of my back burner projects and mix that in with my other 3 projects... I sure don't mind the extra room in my garage or the $$ in my pocket...

Re: Debating... 67 gmc custom

Enjoy the room and money gained and boost the other projects is what I would do. I know, I know, sounds too practical. I'm just getting older, that's all. Damn common sense! :cuss:

Re: Debating... 67 gmc custom

I'm located in the boondocks 100 miles north of KC and 100 miles south of Omaha...Thats is/was a $6K truck all day long around here. To me that Victor Six and the fact that it's a straight 67 driver makes it a little more desirable. Rare motor, first production year, and it's clean, all make it what it is, "Americana in one her finest hours!" I bought my DD, a LWB 72 C/10 with 350/350 and 3:08 open with an oak bed that might have been 5 years old for $2500. I drove it 400 miles to home and she never fired again until I swapped another 350 in her I picked up from another 72 C/10 being parted out. I bought Nasty Sally in 2009 for $500 and drove her two whole blocks home! She was my first and my reason for joining this awesome Forum! Today, my DD aka, "Belle" is a $10K truck and still needs rockers and corners. Sally on the other hand is a solid $25K truck with factory correct buckets, carpet, new rockers and corners, and her now 3rd powerplant, a .060" over 427 BBC that only runs on 110 octane. I got stupid after the 396 threw a rod out on the street and let my machinist best friend talk me into building this 11 second 427 Chevy. I have invested well over $30K in that truck and know I will never live long enough to get that money back but she's paid off double that in fun and memories at the shows and races. Those two trucks turn alot of heads at the truck shows and drag strips when they see a 72 draft horse haulin another 72 thoroughbred onto the property...That was my goal ten years ago when I retired. I'm hankerin for a 4x4 lately, but that's another story for another dream...Might go to Tennessee in September, see if old Sally has one more trophy run in that burnout pit..? ;)
