1972 2500 2wd/4wd help

hey everybody. i have a 1972 gmc c2500 custom camper.i love the truck as she sits and drive her alot but where i live the road conditions are usually poor out here in the country and winters are not always fun. was wondering what you guys thought bout 2wd to 4wd drive conversion? how hard is it? and also should i or just leave it. my only problem is that she only has 62000 original miles on her and im not one for cutting up classics.what do you think?

I hate to flame you some, but do some searching. There are a ton of threads on this site on this very subject.

Kwmech has a point there are a lot of threads on the subject. But if you have a clean original truck I'd be inclined to look into a few other options first. Depending on what rear axle you have a posi or a locker will give you a big improvement over a stock open rear. Changing the front springs to a heavier square body diesel set will give about a 2" lift giving more tire room. Finally we love pictures here, so show us your ride and welcome to the board.

a 3/4 ton 2wd truck handles pretty well in snow. Lots of folks on here have plowed with 2wd truck. I've seen pictures!! Ha. Personally, with such low mileage and the esteemed custom camper status (I'm biased), I'd leave it as is. If you really want a K20 down the road, you could probably find a decent one for less than the cost of the conversion (or at least not much more than the cost of the conversion). Welcome to the board. if you google in the upper right "google" box of the website (i.e. NOT on your personal browser), make sure you click "67-72 chevytrucks.com's radio button in that same box, otherwise it just searches the interweb. I'd recommend searching for something like "2WD to 4WD conversion" and you'd get plenty of hits that explain what's involved if you aren't familiar. Lotsa work in my book... but will give you a good idear what you're in for. Bottom line, if you're on the fence, and it sounds like you are, I'd fall back on the original side of the fence for now. Can always do it later too. Would love to see some pics of your custom camper!

btw, here's the results of the above search request, I couldn't resist! http://www.google.com/custom?domains...D%3A1%3B&hl=en
