89 chevy solid axle conversion
 
Who is the go to guy on this?

Ive got a very decent 2wd xtnded cab long bed practicaly givin to me and Ive got the axles and lift off my 86 sittin out back.


What all is involved? I understand the obvious... but is this conversion even practical?

any help is much appreciated....

It's a little harder on a 2wd than a 4wd, but still doable. As for mounts, make your own or get them from Sky Manufacturing. Depending how big you want, you might have to cut the crossmember out and build another one. Do a search for SAS, should be alot of info.

I need to add....

Im not looking to make the truck 4wd... Its mainly to run around town in ..

I have a 12 inch lift...

thanks for the quik reply... I was looking for a company that made the brackets... I looked on here an finally found where someone else asked...

Use the front spring hangers from the front of a 73-87 chevy and the rear hangers and shackles from the rear springs of the same truck. Bolt your springs to the axle roll it under the truck and center the axle up. Weld the front hangers up to the bottom of the front frame horns. the rear shackles an hangers need to be flipped around so that they face the inside of the frame and weld it up. Solid Axle swap done quick and easy!
