NP205 pops out of low
5 Attachment(s)
I have a 32 spline figure 8 np205 mounted to a 4l80e using a nwfab 4l80e adapter that keeps popping out of low. Its my first attempt at rebuilding one and I put in new bearings, seals, and shift collars. I suspect the teeth on the gears where the shift collars go on are worn out. I dont know the origin of the np205 but I suspect it had a hard life.
Opinions? Can I still get all these parts or do I need to start looking for a replacement? Are the internal parts the same between a round pattern and a figure 8 np205? I have a spare round pattern 91 np205 with the 4l80e adapter. I could use that tcase but I am afraid Im gonna have to have driveshaft lengths modified again. |

You can get everything you need here: https://torqueking.com/category/1973...afts-couplers/
I just rebuilt a round pattern 205. Most of its guts are from a figure 8 205. For the most part everything is interchangeable assuming spline counts are the same. |
Re: NP205 pops out of low
While there may be wear on some of the internal parts. I would think that the popping out of gear is most likely due to worn shift rails and/or the detent springs and balls which hold the shift rails in place.

Re: NP205 pops out of low
With the conversion I would make sure it is going all the way into low. Such as the shifter or the boot hitting the floor pan or something similar. Very rare for them to pop out of gear if fully engaged. Internals are the same---even between manufacturers. I've swapped Ford output shafts into GM cases and such. AND, your PTO bolts are too long. Check for interference there
