71 K2500 Cummis Swap

This is my first thread. I am new to this. Hope I am doing this right. I apologize for the overload, we are several weeks into this project. Any and all advice will not be ignored. Thanks for the help.

Picture 1:

This was a complete 02 Dodge 2500. It had a Cummins 24 valve motor, NV5600 transmission with less then 5000 miles, 241DLD transfer case, Dana 80 disc break rear axle, and a typical Dana 60 front axle. The plan is use the motor, transmission, and rear axle for the swap. I bought a 12 valve years ago but never got around to doing the swap. I am going to use the P Pump and front cover from the 12 valve to install on the 24 valve.

Picture 2:

I have owed this truck for 5 years, but this is the ACTUAL truck I learned to drive a stick in when I was 12 years old in the middle of a corn field. We have been talking about putting a Cummins in it for several years now and the opportunity finally has come around. Between the donor truck and the worn out Oldsmobile motor it is finally time to do something.

Weekend 1:

We removed the doghouse and core support. Then removed the cab. (FYI...Running a strap thru the windows will bend the doors.) Then we pulled the motor, transmission, and transfer case out.

Weekend 2:

We set the 12 and 24 valve motor side by side. We removed both injection pumps, front cover off the 12 valve, and injectors from the 24 valve. Scheid Diesel had a Black Friday sale of 10% off total sale. I ordered big P Pump, injectors, injector lines, bigger crossover tubes, head studs, FASS Pump, and bigger turbo, along with some gaskets. I needed the pumps and injectors for cores.

Weekend 2:

Also removed the axles, cut up the frame, loaded up the frame and doghouse to go to the scrap yard.

Weekend 3:

We cut all the mounts off the rear axle. Went to Scheid’s to pick up all my motor parts. Ordered spring pirches and shock mounts for rear axle. Went and bought a 29 spline np205 transfer case, dropped it off at the transmission shop to have it rebuilt. While I was buying the transfer case, I noticed the guy had a Cummins motor stand sitting there and I ended up buying that too. I ordered female input shaft for the transfer case from Advance Adapters.

Nice project. Looks like a fair amount of money was spent so far to do it right. Great choice using an early GMC !

I have always liked the 67-72 trucks and we have spent a lot of money trying to do it right.

Nice truck and nice project! Make sure you add extra isolators on those lines to help prevent them from cracking. How big did you go on the lines etc? It sounds like you may need 2 turbos to help burn all that fuel.
