Throttle body engine back to a carburetor?
I have a 1990 tbi engine that runs great which I would like to use in my '72 c-10. Unless I'm wrong, I think I need an aftermarket intake to go from tbi back to a carb set up, no?
Don't the intake bolt on the tbi point straight down on either side of the throttle body as opposed to the older 350 intakes which were at an angle on either side of the carb? Thank you for any help. |
Re: Throttle body engine back to a carburetor?
I think that the intake bolts were all at the same angle pre-'86. In '88 the two middle intake bolts on each side were at a different angle than the outer bolts. Not sure about '86-'87 intakes. Some have filed the holes on the intakes to make up for the difference on whatever year engine the intake manifold is used on. I would rather use the correct year manifold for whatever year engine I was using since they are machined parts.

Re: Throttle body engine back to a carburetor?
I thought they sold a adapter plate. What about just using the tbi? I put a 91 350 in my 52, plugged everything in, hooked up a a battery, sprayed some starting fluid in it and fired right up. Especially since you said it runs good why mess with it

Re: Throttle body engine back to a carburetor?
You can find OE intake for carb in the salvage yard in 1986-1988 camaros firebirds, caprices plus 1986 -1989 chevy trucks, usually in the r series (old body style).
