11 inch clutch kit for T5 swap

In looking through threads for T5 swaps I thought someone had listed a part number or an application for an 11 inch clutch kit for use in our trucks when using the S10 T5. However I am now not able to find it again. If anyone could help me out with this it would be greatly appreciated.

From my research, a big block 70s Vette should fit the bill.
I’ll be using the same for my 6.0 + TKO and that’s what I came up with.

I completed the S-10 install in my '67 with a 250 six cylinder a few years ago. It works great! I purchased the spacer plate and used the '85 Astro van 11" clutch disk. I didn't have to use the adapter ring in the bell housing locator hole, the SM420 bell housing was the right size for the S-10 front bearing retainer.

Here is where the shifter is in relation to the bench seat. I bent the shift lever straight up from where the sharp bend was and it worked pretty good. It isn't as close to the dash as it looks. The shifter on it now is off of a full size pickup 5 speed and it is too big to screw on the shaft and too long. I just slid it down over the shift lever so I could test drive it.

The yellow circle shows where the original shifter hole was and the new hole is about 8-1/4" back.

here's the thread on my swap. I also used an Astro van 11" clutch kit.

How much is the spacer plate and where did you buy it? I'm trying to save money on this install. My plan was to shorten the input shaft pilot area & front bearing retainer to provide clearance

I read that some guys shortened the input shaft and bearing retainer but I didn't want to go that route. A couple of guys even used big washers at each bolt location to space the transmission back from the bell housing but I wouldn't recommend that.

The company I bought mine from is no longer in business. I think I paid $43 for my spacer plate when I bought it.. Here are some and there are others with many different prices. Do some more searching.

One piece of advice I can't emphasize enough is to make sure you dial in your bell housing to make sure everything is aligned before you bolt it all down for good.

Thanks for the information. I have mocked this up with a spare engine & bellhousing & believe I only need to take .200-.250 off the input shaft and maybe an inch off the bearing retainer. I'll probably go that route because most of those spacers seem like a lot of money just to avoid a little trimming.
In your first post you say it fits the SM465 bellhousing don't you mean SM420.

I'm not sure what you mean by dial in. The bellhousing locates to pins in the engine block. The transmission centers to the hole in bellhousing. What else is there to do?

Dialing in a bell hsg is checking, and correcting if necessary, how well the stock dowel pins center the bell housing's opening relative to the crank centerline before the trans is installed.

Here's how you do it: https://www.moderndriveline.com/prop...ment-indexing/

Here's how you fix it if you find a problem: https://www.summitracing.com/search/...20dowel%20pins

Most do not do this - and most won't have a problem if they don't - but it is a good safeguard against mass production tolerances, casting defects, etc.

Dialing in the bellhousing is a little pain, but is worthwhile on a performance application.

Cheap feeler gauges can be cut to shim the bellhousing face parallel to crank and I like the Robbmc adjustable dowel pins. The Lakewoods are similar, but the Robbmc are 75% less money and work great.

You are right on the SM 420, it would have the smaller hole. I was thinking about the NV4500 install in my '72 C30 which had the SM465 transmission & 5 1/8" hole for the bearing retainer. Thanks for spotting that. I will go back and change it.

Here is some more information on misalignment issues. It doesn't take long to do and keeps from having to pull the transmission or engine for a major failure several thousand miles down the road.
When you are using a group of parts that didn't come from the factory together and were manufactured with different tolerance standards the odds for failure go up. Over the decades companies change how they do things. Not every 3/8 alignment pin and hole is set up the same. For example are the holes in the 67 bell housing 0.375 and the engine pins 2 or 5 thousands undersize to allow for manufacturing tolerances? Or are the pins exactly 0.375 and the holes oversized to compensate for any oversized pins? Did GM use the same procedure on vehicles manufactured in the 1990's? Is the T-5 pilot a metric equivalent of a fractional pilot?
Too many variables that cause expensive heart aches for my peace of mind.

I'd be hunting down an Astro van clutch if that is what I planned to use. They are all but impossible to find. I think I got the last Astro van 11 inch clutch disk that Rock Auto ever sold for my OT hot rod. That was five or six years ago and they have become harder to get since.

The simple solution if you have a WC S 10 T 5 is to swap in a Jeep input shaft that lets you use a regular 10 spline Clutch disk. https://lugnutz65chevystepside.weebl...ter-plate.html They are usually on Ebay for 70 something $$ New.

I did mine a few years ago too but I got my disk through NAPA. They had to order it but didn't have any trouble finding it.

Not a problem, Rock Auto lists 7 different clutch kits for this application. I just ordered one from my local O'Reilly's

I guess I'm going to have to walk this statement back. After mocking this up with the Astrovan clutch kit I don't believe anyone has used that clutch without needing a spacer. The clutch hub is biased more to the rear than the one from the SM326.
It's obviously been done with a different clutch however. We bought my wife's truck with a T5 already installed with no spacer involved. I don't know what clutch it has installed, but I can tell it's a much smaller clutch. I imagine it's probably the 9 1/8 inch clutch from an S10.
